Just curious, but what is the easiest way to procure a set of leds (reasonably priced) :vinzclortho: for the proton pack? I looked on ebay and saw some cool scanner leds for car alarms, but nothing too close. Any tips?
If you want the accurate pattern you need to pay for an accurate kit… Or else you settle for whatever you can find or build…
Also reasonably prices is objective… I feel my kit is very reasonably priced for what I offer, the world is spoiled with mass marketed Asian import electronics… Small volume, custom hand built electronics are costly to do…

Thanks I hate to sound like I’m on the high stool simply promoting my product, but the truth is that I can only offer it for the price I do is because I can take advantage of some bulk discounts… No where near the discounts I wish I could get but still substantial compared to a one off item…
If you have the skills and tools can you make an accurate light kit for less? Maybe…
Are you going to find an over the counter accurate kit for less? Doubtful…
Can you find some blinky lights for cheap? Certainly…
I never discourage people from making their own stuff, go for it it’s fun and a challenge, but in truth you generally won’t save any money unless your time, tools and materials are free…
Exoray’s kits are, undoubtedly, the best. Nobody could dispute that.
Unfortunately when i built my pack i found myself on a budget that put them outside what i could afford to pay for pack electronics (mostly it should be noted because of the rpice of international shipping - something Exoray has no control over).
I was however able to assemble reasonably accurate pack electyroning for £20 using kits from maplins, and KnightLight (which unfortunately I beleive are no longer in business, but sometimes their parts come up on eBay). Maplins produce a Chase LED kits with has 8 LED’s that flash in a variety of sequences (with a mini POT for speed control) for £6.99. Easily modded to run 4 for the cyclotron. These can also be easily modded for the gun bar graph. The Power Cell lights I used KnightLights 15 LED assembly for, but as i say finding this can be hard as I believe they’re no longer in business. The other gun lights I just used LED’s with the correct resisters, and where appropriate LED’s with an integrated blinking IC.
In short, pack electronics can be done relatively cheaply with some patience and acceptance that it won’t be screen accurate, WILL be time consuming, and wont look as neat inside. If these are an issue for you, and you can justify the outlay, Exoray is by far the best to go with - screen accurate, neat, all in one solution. I defintiely would have gone down this avenue if I could justify the cost - offset against my income I simply couldnt afford to lay down that sum and had to make do with hours of research and something that isn’t 100% screen accurate, but more than enough to fulfill my thirst for a proton pack!

If you’re not looking for screen accurate, and need lights on a budget you might try All Electronics. THey have some chasing / flashing LED kits you can build yourself for very cheap!

Was thinking of putting two messages with the “|” symbol. One going “right” (up) and the other going “left” (down), at high speed… what do you think, will it work?
Not crazy. But there are less expansive stuff that will look more realistic then that.
I personally would have used something else.

I use a set of chasing lights that I picked up at an automotive store. The chasing is in sequences of three lights at a time, but really only a die-hard prop maker is going to know the difference. To the general public all that matters is you have flashy lights and it costs a fraction of what a kit will run you.
I did the same with my cyclotron lights. They’re just four red lights that stay on all the time. Again, a compromise, but it works for most people when I’m out in public.
Not that I wouldn’t love to have a kit. I just always find other things to spend my money on. 
It really all depends on how accurate you want to be and how much you are willing to spend.
