Hello all! Still working on my first proton pack ever. I think I have finally received most every part that I need. One thing I can’t quite figure out is the bolt method for attaching metal pieces to the pack? I get the concept but how do you reach inside some of the tubes to get the bolt through?
And if you don’t use the bolts, how do you attach the metal pieces? Any advice would be fantastic! I did search and went through the index threads but I still don’t see how fingers can fit into some of the tubes and hide the bolts in others?
You can use pop rivets with a larger head for stability or tap your parts so you can attach them using machine screws/bolts from inside the shell. It is possible to attach everything using screws, but you need to use shorter screwdrivers for those hard to reach places. Hope this helps.
Agreed. That’s what I did for parts where conventional bolts/washers/nylok nuts won’t work. If you have a harbor freight tool store near you you can pick up a pretty decent tap and die set cheap.
Yes, pop rivets have worked in the past and it just so happens that a very respectable member of this community used that very method to assemble a hero aluminum/ fiberglass GB1 pack.
