Ahhh, this stuff is crazy to work with!!! Before advancing on my pack I need to bondo some parts here and there so I finally decided to go outside, set everything up and begin my Bondo adventure. MAN, this stuff is hard to work with, it’s all creamy yet drips EVERYWHERE, it’s all toxic and stuff…Ahh, oh well, hopefully the outcome will be worth it. Any tips guys?? My aunt-in-law said there’s this stuff called sculpture paste and epoxy putty that’s LIKE bondo but easier to work with, anybody hear or have experience of this stuff? AHhh, help!
I’ve also used Epoxy putties before. I’ve tried JB weld which everyone else seems to use but I didn’t really have that much success with it. I’ve also tried/use Apoxie Sculpt and it’s great to worth with. Also, it doesn’t give off any fumes.
The only “problem” with epoxy putties is that you’ve to wait 24 hours for them to dry.
GhostbustersFreek, I use a product called Glazing & Spot putty from Bondo. Ready to put. Comes into a small tube (4.5oz). Dry in 30min to 1h if you applicate some thin coat and sanding is very easy. Try this
thanks for the tips guys! I have and do use the glazing and spot putty on suggestion from Propfan who uses it, the only thing is sometimes I need to fill fairly big holes, which even now i’m learning i’ll just need to glue in some plastic scraps to help, bondo seems to just droop everywhere so. I rather like the epoxy putties you can use them INSIDE the house and you can touch them and the “fumes” are just smells and not that bad. The Spot putty I have to take outside though because the fumes become a bit too much after a while…keep the tips coming guys!!
haha, I JUST bought some of that at Home Depot, how funny…I bought that and another epoxy putty by Loctite, the company whos super glue I use to glue my pieces(which maybe I should be using epoxy, but their super glue is, well, SUPER!) I’m going to try both and see which I like better, but coming from you hotshot I think I may be leaning towards the Quick Plastic! Thanks for the tip my friend!!!
OH, I did my first bondo work today and may I just say that I do not working with that stuff…having that respirator on and then trying to sand that stuff, IMPOSSIBLE and very uncomfortable. I think I may just use epoxy putty to reinforce the small cracks and crevices and the corners of my boxes. I’ll post pictures and descriptions of my work…thanks again guys!! LATER!
GhostbustersFreek, dispite what i was told by other members here, i tried using Bondo’s fiberglassing kit (i have a vac formed pack im working on) to cover up holes too big for just bondo and to strengthen the plastic. i had a few people tell me not to do it cause it might mess it up but it doesnt. the stuff is great, definately needs to be used in a well vented area though. i got it at walmart. its not too expensive either. then i also use Bondo’s putty to fill in the voids to make everything smooth. f.y.i., if you decide to use the kit, you can buy either fiberglass mat in like a woven mat form or its loosely put together and looks like compress easter grass. i used the easter grass lookin stuff and it was a little messy so get the other kind. its like three dollars for either bag of fiberglas mat
