So I decided I need a trap. And since the Matty trap is at stupid prices and all I like about it is the electronics.
I started to build my own using pics on the net for reference.

So I didn’t like the styrene with paint much. Plus a couple pieces just didn’t want to dry nice.

Metal vs styrene…hmmm metal.
Now I’m planning for a styrene top peice.
And after a bit of layering and sanding..
Now I get to play around with some doors..I dread this for some reason.

Good test fit for me. Cut out the space for the arms at either end and then I got a lot of sandinding touch ups..filling spots and then it will be down to the last stretch… yay

I will post my reference photos I used with the finished trap together.
I plan on a second trap after this one, with a much much easier build now that I know the ins and outs of it all.
The troubling points are are over now…it was a run for the finish at this point.
I have to admit it had a lot more weight to it than I would expected, I can’t imagine having a full metal trap hung from my belt anymore.
This is looking really good. Great job so far.
After a bunch of tweeking,sanding, painting and trimming…oh did I mention sanding..lol

Lastly will be some slight weathering, stickers, the front chaser LEDs with flasher (waiting to receive}, mounting the Dixie bracket, finding some bright lights and a door motor for the trap box. I DONT think I want sounds…yet.
So all in all as of now..I’m pretty happy with it. It looks good to me! Its nice and heavy, super sturdy and solid. Does not make a sound when you shake it around. So it adds a great feeling of something that has REALword feel. Not a toy or a sloppy/loose fitting build. I definitely would have no fear of bumping this thing into ppl at shows,walls or even letting it slip out of my hands. Worse case scenario is a knob pops off or it gets a scratch or dent.
A few things about this build I did on purpose…for possible upgrades in the future.
All knobs can turn and are removable.
Side rods are removable and will have red tubes to change out.
All metal plating/vector plates/dale fuse and so on are all removeable by screws holding them in.
The whole trap structure can be taken apart except the sides and bottom of trap box. And the side and bottom of trap box holder.
Battery box and front indicator box can be unscrewed to change out batteries with one screw.

It was fun so far. I can’t wait to finish her up and move on to something new.

I have a ocd sometimes when it comes to my stuff, and sometimes I never feel its right. I can do better..lol
i have been better with it over the years. Ive learned to say good enough. …on the third attempt.
I really think I wanna do a clear acrylic trap next. It was going thru my mind thru this whole project.

That sounds good to me. Once you get the hang of one project, you’ll be finding other mediums to do them in. " and for my next build, a trap out of…TOOTH PICKS" lol go for it man.
Really nicely done. I’ve been a bit nervous about starting my own scratch trap build, so it’s helpful to see this build and the great final product.
