Child Size Proton Pack plans?

Hello ghostheads,

I have apparently exposed my 4 year old son to so much Ghostbusters stuff over the past 6 months that he now wants to be one… like professionally I think.

Anyway, I was looking around for some plans to make a Proton Pack and Thrower at 1/2 the scale of the adult pack. He is 44" tall so a full size pack would need casters on the bottom.

Any help here would be great. I will probably start with ParaNormans plans and just cut the measurements numbers in half and see where that gets me.

ok so I started to measure a motherboard out and decided a 3/4 scale is much better than 1/2. a 9.3 inch wide pack is just too tiny…

I’d use Stefan’s plans, and yeah, 3/4 scale is what most seem to aim for when making child packs.

Thanks for the help guys. I found this thread and its giving me some good ideas. I wanna keep it more like a stunt pack just cause I know my son is going to be jumping off the couch wearing this…

I am about 1/ 3 of the way into the pack. I still have to make a thrower as well. i am thinking about just using 4 blinking 3v LED and not using a light board at all.

I still have to find a ribbon cable, some tubing and brush on paint. I heard spray paint will eat through the foam.

What do you think of the black plastic pie plate thing? It looks sorta cool but is also a major departure from the pack design. I dunno I think I want to keep it. This will be like 15% screen accurate (maybe) anyway unlike my personal adult sized pack (which is about 85% as I used SMC and not Legris).

tomorrow i will post a photo of the thrower. again please realize this is for a 4 year old so its not even close to screen accurate. honetsly i expect him to break 4 or five times before next halloween : )

the thrower is finished except for some decals. one flashing red led and one steady green are fed by a pair of AA’s. the red light on the front panel is a switch that turns on the white led in the barrel.

Everything for my sons main pack is done except labels and ribbon cable and Clippard (cork with nut on top). The cool thing is the bottom red hose actually houses the wires for the EDA light (which will just be steady blue LEDs). There are 4 red flshing LEDs in the cyclotron although they flash randomly and not in any particular sequence:

Here’s an updated photo. I have added the labels and some details. I printed out the labels in a 7x10 format insteaad of 8.5x11 to get the 75% size I needed. The hoses are all just different color CAT5 cable. The clippards are just wine corks and the booster tube and injector tubes are made from paper towel rolls. Most of the pack is foam and cardboard. The cyclotron is the main departure from the movie shape and size but it works well as a velcro-removeable dome for the LED light wires. All the light are powered from the 2xAA batts in the thrower trigger box and wired back to the pack (opposite of what my pack is like). I am still waiting for the blue LEDs to come in the mail for the EDA lights. One more photo to post after they are installed…

Awesome job, I really like the design of the cyclotron. Is your son bouncing off the walls with it yet?

He hasn’t actually seen the whole proton pack yet. Its going to be sort of a surprise or at least an unveiling saved for a nice clear afternoon outside. Here is a picture of him holding the Thrower. My friends saw this photo and immediately asked me if I’d explained to him about “crossing the streams!”

Holidays took up my spare time but here I have completed the little Proton pack in time for the Seattle ECCC comic con. Still working on the uniform and the RGB ghost trap repaint.

here is a short shaky video of Lewis wearing his pack. everything runs off 2 AA batteries. So there’s about 16 LED and a buzzer all 3v.
