Here is my current progress on my second proton pack. My first one was built in High School and come out like ■■■■ sprayed in black. This one is much better but still leaves room for improvement. However i’m not gonna be ashamed to wear this one.

Impressed by the solid wood approach. Have you wired it for lights and sound?

It is wired for lights, which were a headache to run through the wood in spite of pre-drilling holes for them. But no sound on this one. I’m already making plans for a second pack from the mistakes I made and learned from doing this one.

Yeah it has a good bit of weight to it. Not as bad as you’d think though with the Alice frame.

Man you did a great build up. My only problem with the pack is you forgot filler. So the options are

Wood Fill or Land fill.

Lot of hard work in there!

They’re right about the wood filler. It’ll take the grain out of the paint job and fill in the holes and gaps nicely after you’d stuffed it with putty then sanded it down and repainted it.

Probably not what you want to hear at this stage, but it’s easier to putty, resand, and paint now than it will be after you’ve already applied the decals and all the other loose smaller parts and wires and lights.

I’m dying to know the weight of this thing? Mine is mostly plywood and weighs about 18-20 pounds even after I added the sound system with a pretty hefty speaker, so I think most folks would be surprised at how reasonable Plywood can be in weight.

I’m not gonna say my shoulders don’t bruise after wearing it for 6 hours straight at a party..it’s happned twice now, one of the parties was only 2-3 hours but I WAS lighsaber dueling with it on my back so the bouncing around did its damage…

Anyway, your hard work shows! Keep pushing! That last curve will make a huge differance. Check out my thread linked on my signature to see the differance between something with no woodfiller back in 2007 and with woodfiller in the 2008 and 2009 updates. It’s not gorgeous but it looks hella better without woodgrain showing.
