Clear or Frosted cyclotron lenses

I just got my pack together and I’m kinda disappointed in the cyclotron lights. I used a flashlight reflector and I’m running a 3 LED assembly in place of the regular bulb. I think that the clear lense just lets the light shine through without lighting up the lense well. If they were frosted they would essentially light up more. Seems like everyone uses clear lenses but just curious about other’s opinions.

use this on the back of each lens. Practice on a spare piece of plastic first.

Scotch tape from the inside works too if you can’t find the spray. Try it. Maybe it looks ok.

that would work I think, but use wide scotch tape to avoid lines that1/2 inch tape would overlap.

You can also use fine steel wool on the inside of the lens to diffuse it

440 sandpaper?

Yea, a quick buff with some high grit sandpaper will get the job done.

Light bulbs unlike L.E.D.s emit light 360 degrees which reflectors pick up and focus forward. L.E.Ds are a completely different breed they emit light forward because of a built in reflector at the base of the element and the lens expands the light . Unless the L.E.D. is designed to use a separate reflector one will not work. My sugestion is to use the brightest L.E.D. you can find and mount it back a ways in the pack so you can take advantage of the spread coming off the lens.

Do what Cyland said and set the LED’s back a little (I used disposable cups spray painted silver on the inside), then take a used milk jug and cut off a piece and glue it over the backside of the lens, between the lens and the light.

I used the frosted glass spray and it looks much better. Still not 100% happy but it’s good enough for Halloween.

I win!!! haha!

I used the plastic from a gallon of milk. Its a transparent white and seems to spread out the light quite nicely.

I’ve seen wide-angled LEDs. But try to find the brightest ones.

Also, like everyone else mentioned, set the LEDs back a bit.

That should help - combined with a frosted look on the back of the lenses.

I did that with my first pack and plan on doing the same with my current pack build.

Thread almost made it 5 years…

Whoops. Didn’t realize this thread was so old, LOLs.
