Clippard question

I’ve read that one of the clippards was originally thought to be one type, but later was discovered to be another. Which clippard was this, the one on the gun or the pack? And what was it thought to be? And what made people change their mind?

I ask because I noticed something just now. On Ray’s planet hollywood pack, the screws used to hold the clippard on are wrong. They’re socket head cap screws. But the clippard screws are actually these machine screws with a tall head and standard flathead notch in them. That indicates to me the valve was removed at some point and then the pack was repaired for display.

Unfortuantely I don’t have time at the moment to research this further, but I thought I’d just put that out there. :slight_smile:

most of the packs had socket head cap screws attaching the clippard to the pack. most of the throwers utilized the original screws.

Until the R-331 was discovered, it was believed that an R-501 was used on the pack, whose body is identical to the 331 and has a very similar label.

Interesting tidbit, there were packs that had an R-701 on the pack and an R-331 on the thrower

i found the name of screws once but forgot, so I did a little googling and voila!

Fillister Head Screws, the proper size is 10-32. The ones used back then appear to be slotted but most current ones I have seen have a phillips head.

i think MasterYoda has one for sale with slotted screws, i considered buying it just for the screws :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there anyway of creating your own Clippard’s? I cant find any to buy

Enchanted Unicorn used film canisters for his, some people use 11/8" dowels, you could cap off a piece of pvc, (in those examples, you can use a toothpaste cap, maker lid, a smaller dowel, etc. etc. for the adjustment knob), small lotion bottles-- it’s a fairly basic shape.

For the base-- cut an oval out of 1/8" material, screw it on, paint it, and labels.

There is a company in the UK that will get you brand new Clippards as per the originals used…The West Group Ltd in Hampshire…google em !
