I read the article Chris posted and it is absolutely horrible.
And while I agree that no one should be complaining about someone that wants to take a stand against the convention. I will retain my position and say that especially after reading that article… boycotting DragonCon now because of Kramer is pointless. I mean heck. DragonCon has been refusing to pay him his dividends for years. He has been having to sue them to get them. It is hardly their fault for any of this. They have been doing their best to get rid of the guy.
It would be like boycotting Coca-Cola… because someone that owns shares in it is a criminal.
Given that it looks like the guy is either going to die, or face trial and be convicted very soon… Dragon*Con should be completely financially disassociated with Kramer after this year.
Point of order; we could purchase stock and bring a shareholder derivative suit. From there we could force a buyout of stock. Then he would no longer make money off the convention.
You are all wrong for not considering that option.
Dragon*Con isn’t a publically traded company. So you’d have to force a share holder to sell a share. And really. Who knows how many shares there are, or what they would cost. They could have 10 shares, each worth a million dollars for all we know. (Since it is privately held, that information isn’t known either).
From the sounds of the article though.. it sounds like they’ve been trying to squeeze play Kramer for the last 5 years or so specifically on the stock.
You find me one shareholder and I can kill the whole thing. It’s a closed corp; you sell the corp’s rightist and trademarks to a new corp. New corp informed sans Kramer, Bingo.
I did well in this class. Give me a more difficult problem.
This is information i can probably look into…i still know a few folks in tech ops
However…ron daniels brought a possible solution to the table inside a few days of posting…id like to think that if it were that easy…someone would have tried it by now.
Why is the accused child molester getting money a bad thing?
The accused child molester won’t retain a dime of that money. It is, primarily, going to lawyers and the courts: two things necessary to our justice system. Should we suspend due process and deny someone representation (someone who, like it or not, is legally entitled to the money they’re receiving) because we find the charge reprehensible?
In the end, the convention, with its hundreds of employees and over 60,000 attendees, receives the VAST majority of the money, with a little bit going to lawyers and courts to try this accused child molester in accordance with our laws and procedures. If the evidence is there, if he is found guilty, and if he is sentenced, he will no longer profit from the convention in anyway.
Why should hundreds lose their jobs and 60,000 suffer because we have an emotional reaction to what this one person, who will (as stated) have his shares revoked if convicted anyway, is accused of doing?
Honestly, it’s like trying to shut down an entire factory, putting hundreds out of a job and denying others the goods made by that factory, because a ■■■■■■■■■ former employee is a shareholder who refuses to be bought out.
Seriously, knee-jerk emotional reactivism all up in this bitch.
