I was looking at the photos of the packs on display at Planet Hollywood and was wondering, has anyone ever been allowed to take hands on detailed measurements and identify every piece and type of part composition so 100% accurate packs can be built? Is there any guess work still involved at this point?
Far as I know the only person who’s gotten hands on was Vincenzo. His reference photos of the Sony lobby pack which was a hero pack are there. As for the planet. The only other pack the community has had their mitts on was the lost Huegel pack
Several people have gotten their hands on various packs at various times. At least 7 people I know of have had direct access to the hero pack in the sony lobby though only Vince, Vinny and Andy were able to take pictures with a tape in the shot. Blame Blob for ruining that. There were some measurments taken off the Ramis pack that was auctioned last year, Ken’s stunt pack and some USF stunt castings. There have also been various throwers that have been handled in the community. The problem is every one of these is slightly different so measurements from one don’t necessarily match up with another. Also, the quality of the measurements themselves varies wildly. Due to parallax in the camera and movement of the tape you can often look at 2 different pics and get two slightly different measurements. There are also measurements that were missed like the height of the booster frame or depth of the EDA.
Despite all that it’s possible to get damn close to a movie pack these days. There’s no plug-and-play option to do it and it’ll take you a lot of work and deciding what’s “good enough” for you but it can be done. As evidence check out mburkit’s GB1 Omni build: http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=31863, pchrisbosh1’s GB1 Hero build: http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24965, or MGC’s GB2 Ray build: http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=35633 just to name a few.
I heard he sold his soul to Gozer to do that…
