Do you see it? I was looking through the galleries at Brickshelf and found this model of a Ectomobile. It looks like the guys were on a job! If you open this image in a separate window it’ll show up larger with more detail.
By the way, I’ve gotten more pieces for my Ectomobile model and it’s coming along very nicely. I’ll have it finished up here soon and will post some pictures of it.
the ecto1 and blues mobile in the same pic… thats just awesome
Besides the Bluesmobile you also have a Christine in the picture to. All three cars have magical powers lol
Thats not Christine, that is a red and white 57 Bel Air. Not a 1958 Plymouth Fury w/ custom Red and white paint. Sorry.![]()
I think he is looking at the black car on the far lower left.
You’d be awful at Where’s Waldo!
I don’t know if it’s Christine, I liked his reference… would be cool if it was the ford from Men in Black ![]()
Trust me its Christine not some 57 Chevy… The colors are the Christine colors and just to let you know GM stole the “shark” tail fins from Plymouth so thats why it looks like Christine.
The scale and effort of the model have been nothing short of astounding… but credit should also be given to his replica of the Empire State Building which you can only just see off to the left hand side.
There’s nice attention to detail on the Ghostbusters however, you can just make out a nametag on the lead Ghostbuster. ![]()
And yeah, Christine and the Bluesmobile rock.
Looks like a Bel-Air to me. Besides, how could some designers in 57 steal the 58 design of the shark fins? Time travel? Kinda doesn’t make sense.
1957 Plymouth:
1957 Chevy:
Same year, similar fins. River_of_slime is right.
And one more bit:
Christine was said to be a 1958 Plymouth Fury, which had similar panels and trim to the 1957 model.
So even if it WASN’T a 1957 Plymouth that was Christine, Chevy still stole the fin design in 1957 when the Plymouth first made that car.
Well Plymouth had “shark fins” in 1957.
Hey, just trying to help. XD
I think the othe cars that aren’t police cars/Taxi’s were used in movies too, but that’s just me.
The “shark fin” was first conceptualized in 1948 by a man named Harley J. Earl (look him up) the first car to have them was the 1950 Le Sabre concept car Cadillac had hump fins first and intituted the “shark fin” on the Eldarado as early as 1955. So if Chevrolet “stole” any design cues (as far as the fins) it was from their GM brothers.
Christine, in the film was a 1958 fury the main difference being the reverse check chrome strip which is clearly not on the lego model, nor is the roofline, fin structure, or hood design as similar to the plymouth as they are to the chevy.
Now hopefully that will end the huge car fin de-rail and we can continue to discuss GB related stuff.
Actully the first fin on a car was on a 1948 Cadillac but Caddy didnt start using shark fins til mid 50s on there production cars. Oh just to let you know Harley Hurly design cars for all of GM lines and that includes Chevy. Christine is based on a 57 Plymouth not 58… the major way you can tell the diffrence between a 57 and 58 is the headlights.
I thought harley earl was a designer for buick. Besides the fact that EVERYONE used fins in the mid to late 50’s and they just got smaller into the 60’s.
Yep by the mid 50s all car companys used fins. Now in the late 50s (58-60) Chevy, Pontaic, and Buick went to the wing style. Caddy had fins til 1964, but after 59 they got smaller. While Chyrsler made there fins bigger… I think the 1960 Chyrsler had longer fins then 59 caddy BUT caddy had the heightest fins in 59. Plymouth on the other hand went to something werid in 1960, front and back wings, it looks werid but cool. By 1964 wings and fins where gone from American cars and all companys now where focos on the muscle car race.
all this talk of fins makes me want to put some on my truck lol …nah
I thought George Barris was the first person to put design cars with fins…
I do believe that is true , I read it on his website…it has to be true , would the man that design the ecto, general lee, bttf delorean and every other famous movie car lie?..
I thought George Barris was the first person to put design cars with fins…
Or so he’d like you to believe, anyway.
