I’ve seen around the process some people have used to dye their elbow pads (dye, then use spray paint/primer for the bubble), but I was curious what colors specifically to use when doing this?
I’ve heard grey, dark grey, black, and I’m not really sure which is more accurate for GB1.
I haven’t bought the pads yet (going to get the Pro Series), but I want to make sure I know how to do his properly so as to not waste any money or time.
Also, I’m looking at buying the Motorola MT-500 radio, but I am unsure if it is a slim or regular that they use. And if it is a regular, could this work as a holster?
It’s the closest thing I have been able to find, and it looks like it should do the job.
The best dye is Rit pearl grey dye to start, then try the Rustoleum painters touch grey primer for the pad. Make sure to get a lighter grey as it comes out darker than what is on the lid when applied to the pad. I also used a dark grey marker for the edges to make it pop. It really is a color preference as all the pads in the films are various shades of grey and can be seen changing thoughout the film. In other words, no two pairs were the same color and its up to you and what you think looks best. As for the MT500 I would go with the regular model, but try a HT220 which is what Ray uses in GB1 and you don’t really need to worry about the size If you need a holster, just contact Franchesky (momeraths24) for the holsters as his fits both models. I hate primer on pads it looks and feels…iffy just get some RIT dye and give them a soak. Some pads wont take dye well get some black shoe polish and dab it on a rag and lightly brush the pads with the rag to darken them but i wouldn’t use primer unless as a last resort.
 These are my freshly dyed Century Judo pads. I used 2 packs of pearl grey RIT Dye along with a half cup of vinegar and a tablespoon of salt. Is it typical of pearl grey dye to come out with a slight purplish tint? I was thinking of going over the outer band of the bubble with a black marker, as I noticed Ray’s had a very dark grey or black band around the bubble in the scene where he is about to take his first shot at Slimer.
