Dying elbow pads

I’ve got some white elbow pads that I was trying to dye grey but when I tested the dye on some white cloth it turned the cloth a brown color. Anyone have any tips/suggestions?

What dye did you use and was the cloth the same material as the pads?

I was using RIT dye and I was using black and whitewash. Figured mixing the two would make gray but did not turn out like that. no the cloth is a different material then the pads.

Different materials dye differently. That said you won’t get black pads from using only black wash, it’ll come out gray anyway. How dark they are depends on how long you leave them in the dye, if in doubt pull them early and re-dye later for a darker color.

An alternate option to dying the pads is to paint them, I used a regular grey primer on mine, and I think they turned out rather well.

not sure why you are trying to make a mixture.

if the pads are white, just dye them in black dye and they will come out gray, dont bother with any other colors.

there is plenty of info on how to dye them and pics of the results in my elbow pad thread.

I used grey to dye my white pads, but they came out almost a greyish-blue colour. I sprayed them with grey primer and just recently sprayed a ligh mist of black over the bubble. Result = perfect.

I did a pearl grey dye and then a black dye treatment on mine. Make sure you wear gloves and squeeze the pads while they’re in the dye bath. That will help get the dye into them, otherwise you’ll have dark elastic and the pad will still look white.

If they’re black, bleach them. Take some gray primer and spray the hell out of them. Stretch them around a coke bottle, for you can spray it all at once. Let it dry OVER NIGHT, then take a lint razer to it. Go over LIGHTLY, can’t stress that enough. And there you go.
