Hey guys. Dose anyone have any good recipes to make green ectoplasm? I know that you are supposed to use borax and elmer’s white glue but for some reason I think I screwed up the recipe or measurements becuase I ended up making a very good green impression of nickelodeon gack. It is just green, rubbery, stretchy but not too oozy like i wanted it to be.
The best recipe I have is this one below. But from the sound of it it might be the same one you are using. I’m making pink ectoplasm right now for a dancing toaster prop and its worked okay for me.
What You Need:

borax powder
-
water
-
4 ounce (120 ml) glue (e.g., Elmer’s white glue)

teaspoon
-
bowl
-
jar or measuring cup
-
food coloring (optional)
-
measuring cup
Time Required: 15 mins
Here’s How:

Pour the glue into the jar. If you have a big bottle of glue, you want 4 oz or 1/2 cup of glue.

Fill the empty glue bottle with water and stir it into the glue (or add 1/2 cup of water).

If desired, add food coloring. Otherwise, the slime will be an opaque white.
-
In a separate, mix one cup (240 ml) of water into the bowl and add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of borax powder.

Slowly stir the glue mixture into the bowl of borax solution.

Place the slime that forms into your hands and knead until it feels dry. (Don’t worry about the excess water
remaining in the bowl.)
- The more the slime is played with, the firmer and less sticky it will become.
Have fun!
Store your slime in a zip-lock bag in the fridge (otherwise it will develop mold).
Tips:

Use white glue, such as Elmer’s brand. Most ‘school glues’ do not have the correct composition.

Don’t eat the slime - it isn’t especially toxic, but not good for you either!

Slime cleans up pretty easily. Remove dried slime after soaking with water.

Hey check this out. I have seen that site that you suggested before and it says that you need borax and polyvinyl alcohol. BUT… I hear that the gel version of elmer’s glue IS basically polyvinyl alcohol. All you have to do is sub that for the white glue and I am guessing you will need to lower the borax a little bit. Not sure yet but I will try it tonight. I made some great slime yesterday that is green from borax and white glue but tonight I will pick up some elmer’s gel glue and let you know what comes up from that mixture.

yeah. The brand is called “20 mule team”. They usually have it at the top of the shelves in the laundry area of the stores. I got my box last night at k-mart. You can also find it at wal-mart and maybe even target.
Anyone know if its available in the UK? I’ve never seen nor heard of it before…

Not sure if they sale it in the UK. They should. I did happen to try the elmers gel glue and I am not sure if I have to experiment with it or what not but it made a stiff ectoplasm that was transparent.
I guess if we want movie style slime we might have to break down and buy it from Spangler, lol…
Nothing to do with the topic but does anybody else find it a bit wierd that this guy is asking to see some pictures with you showing your face? It raised my eyebrows a little!
I am fairly certain that is a class webpage, and perhaps he needed to see his students faces in the picture in order to know that it was them who did it.
But yes.. I had to double take when it started saying show a picture of your face on it! Its like some old balding guy who is all like.. “mmmm show me your face all covered in that slime… oh yess… mmmmm”
Polyvinyl alcohol is only about $15 / lb ordered online. I would get a ton.. then you can make a whole bathtub full! (and possibly attract Sigourney Weaver in her bra).
You paint quite the picture AJ, not sure how the puppies are hanging these days though, possibly like the slime hangs!!!

It is going to be in powder or solid form.
This site actually sells it premixed in the correct 4% form: Buy Polyvinyl Alcohol - 4% w/v Aqueous Solution | Science Stuff A total ripoff when you consider there is only 4 grams or .008 pounds of PVA in it, and you can get a pound of the stuff for $10-20.
If you get a pound of PVA. You need to mix it with 3 gallons of water (heat the water and PVA solution it get it to disolve). Then you will need to do the same with the borax. If you have a pound, you need to mix that with 3 gallons of water.. mix… to create 5-6 gallons of slime! All for about what.. $20-30?
any idea as to where to get it here in the US? I can’t really find anything close to the price range you thought of. All of them want like 100bucks and all.
