Ecto 1 Roof round lights. Flea Market find ..

Ok I was at the flea Market this weekend.. and found a Pair of Old Ambulance Lights.. They are made by Federal Lighting.. I asked how much they were and they said those were collectors.. I hate when they say that.. Anyway.. $20 for pair was price.. I noticed they had the mounting studs.. and one wire sticking out of the back.. ?.. on one the chrome was peeling badly and the back.. and had rust.. The Red Lenses were perfect..

Well I figured maybe they are junk cuz of teh chrome peeling.. and it was very hot day.. my buddy bought a bunch of glass ware from them.. and we went and started the car.. my nephew told me.. hey why dont you go haggle with them.. so I did.. I got the pair for $15 as I told them I am leaving.. and I just wanted them for a haunted house project..

Ok now to my surprise.. They are the wrong color.. Dang.. They are RED not BLUE…I dont know what something like this is worth.. but I figured maybe clean them up… why cant i clean up the lights and chrome paint the backs.. to match.. Would Chrome paint look really bad?.. Opinions?.. I know they are the wrong color.. but even in the 2nd movie they change to white.. so did I mess up.. ?..

I intend sometime to do an ecto.. just will probably not be completly accurate by any means.. but a fun car to do..

I like the lights.. but was just wondering opinions.. whether I shoulda left them.. just something to chat about.. anybody ever used red before on a replica.. Thanks guys..

Now to find the 59 caddy ambulance at the flea market and I might have something.. ha ha..

any opinions are welcome.. thanks..

You could always have the tinting changed if it bothers you that much, but I dont think red is that big of a problem, hell, I could only find amber lights for mine. I think that if you’ve got actual lights like that its already points in your favor, so dont worry about screen accurate and have fun with it.

well I posted a pic.. no they aint cleaned up or anything.. it has been suggested I send them to be rechromed.. hmmm interesting..

You could put them on the back, I got a set from a mail truck that are amber in front, and red in back. I’m going to put them on the back of the roof rack on my ecto.

You could always ebay them, too. You can never tell how much somebody’ll pay for something there, it’s ridiculous.

Well I found an oldsmobile stationwagon.. per a fellow ghostheads suggestion.. . white with white rims.. 2 headlites not 4 but your right it looks alot better more boxy..

My original idea was to use a ford escort station wagon.. I dont think the ford escort idea will work.. well maybe.. its just if I spend some time on somethign like the olds.. most people wont know the difference.. its also a medium size station wagon.. not like a Caprice Classic full size.. which means it probably has a 6 or 4cyl engine.. a little more cost effective.. I want to drive it in parades an stuff maybe.. but the excort would be so small.. easily noticeable..

I have to be realistic.. I aint a mechanic.. restorying a 59 Caddy aint gonna happen.. nor could I afford to keep one going..so a more modern alternative will have to be found..

I really dont want to ebay them right now.. your right.. about people being ridiculous.. but if I decide to sell them.. I would rather help someone out that has the car already.. as he is trying to put the effort in.. I am not going for screen accuracy.. mine is for fun..

I’d love to drive my ecto in a parade too. I’m pretty much going in a totally new direction with the ectostang, I don’t have a traditional style car, nor traditional style lightbar even. So naturally, when I build my rack today, it’ll be a little different too.

If you guys are really in need of the blue lights, I’ll tell you what I did for my car. I just picked up two sets of chrome KC lights from Pep Boys and took the lenses out and painted them with a few coats of clear blue model paint. I put the lenses back in the next day and you really cant tell the difference, they look pretty good and are easy to get. $100 a pair.

I found baja lights at auto zone for 30 bucks. I’m thinking of using them on my ecto for back up lights, or maybe shoot someone in the eyes when they’re behind me with their brights on… Not sure, maybe on the front as some super high beams. That’s a good idea you have though 1965

Hey Ecto Stang they make a real low profile light bar that woudl be great for your car.. its like a teardrop shape that hugs the contours of the roof.. they make one that small too.. ..

ok so I go into town to investigate the white station wagon I saw..

Ok its a 79 cutlas oldsmobile station wagon.. they want $2000 for it.. I looked at it and its got a blue interior.. I was looking at some little rust around the door but the body othewise is good.. I did notice a white stripe on a headllight yep plastic tie holding the light in place hmmmm.. anyway.. It says 87111 on odometer.. and I see these ADDEd rpm gauges and stuff. so the guy comes out.. and tells me its got suped up v8 and the car really hauls ass.. the motor is worth the $2 grand by itself.. ok.. ok I totally lost interest when he says v8.. just cuz I am hoping due to cost of gas to get something a bit better on gas.. might not be possible.. but we will see.. I dont have to buy anything this year..

I get out of it by saying its for a haunted house and suped up v8s and high school kids might be a bad idea.. man I dont want some gas guzzler if I can avoid it.. I mean sheesh.. it still would be cheaper.. but we will just have to see.. still 20 yrs newer.. I wonder if there are any 90s station wagons that still are boxy lookin.. probably not.. thats when the taurus came out and everybody was rounding stuff off..

I was originally thining for escort less than 10 yrs old.. I had been finding with between 50 and 100 thousand miles on them.. for about $3,000 and they are 4 cylinders.. so maybe a little easier to have more fun with it.. I will just wait till I find what I like..

Lo pro’s are expensive though, specially the led ones. I think the vector looks best on the stang anyways.
