Ecto 1 Wire Size Guide

So I have been reading posts in the ecto forums getting a basic idea on the do’s an dont’s of building an ecto 1. One common problem I have seen a few different times is the correct wire size. Well to help with that problem there is a nifty little chart that will help you determine the proper size for the amps an length that you are running.

Key notes on the size chart.

  1. Always use the correct size of amps OR higher to ensure that you can fuse it correctly.

  2. Try to put the fuse as close to the battery as possible. This decreases the chance of burning coating an shorting on the car somewhere. Remember the fuse is the weak point.

  3. Makes sure that the switches you are going to use to run those fancy new lights are also rated for the proper amperage for the lights or other accessories.

  4. Very very important… NO WIRE NUTS!!! Use proper splicing an wire connecting procedures.

These connectors are a great choice if your are wanting to have removable light bars or misc. electronics. They can be found here.. http://www.whiteproducts.com/connectors.shtml

  1. A label maker can be your best friend if you plan on having a lot of things going on electrically. Label all wires as to what they are an where they go. This can also be used to label all relays, wires, switchs, ect. This can save a lot of time when troubleshooting if need be.
