Here’s this year’s demolition derby car… It was headed for the crusher when a friend of mine hit me up and asked if I wanted a demo derby car. At first sight, I thought “there is no way we can destroy this thing!” But upon closer inspection, the thing was/is so rusted-out, there was no way to save it. In fact, I’m a little concerned that the amount of rust it has may have compromised some of it’s strength; we’ll see this Saturday night… Anyway, I’d like to say this is the last derby car we’re going to build, but I already said that after the last one. lol So, I guess there could be future ECTO-19’s down the road- who knows?
Sorry for the delay… I went back to work Monday after being off all summer, so needless to say I’ve been doing some sleeping and am just now getting to go through some pictures from last weekend…
The night went okay. We won the best appearing car award, finished 2nd in the heat and 5th in the main event. But the coolest part, when I got up the next morning their was a big picture of our car on the front page of the local news paper!
The car still runs great! Definitely needs a lot of work, but I think we can fix it and use it again next year (obviously it will never be as pretty as it once was  )
Here are some pics of the event and the aftermath (for some reason I don’t have any from the main event though :-x ). I’m waiting to get a video back from one of my sponsors (Bear Republic Brewing Co.), they had mounted a camera to the roof of the car. So, when ever I get that back from them, I’m going to edit that together with the video that my sister took and another one that my friend made and I will share it with you guys!
This is when they were judging the best appearing car.
Thanks for all the positive feedback guys… I haven’t been able to get a copy the roof top video yet (I haven’t even seen it) I’m a little concerned maybe it didn’t turn out very well. It was shot with one of those Gopro Hero cameras, does anyone know anything about those?.. Anyway, If I havent gotten it by tomorrow, maybe this weekend I’ll just put something together with what I already have
Yes!!! That would be awesome! I actually cut the GB2 logo out of the hood on on the last car and saved that. I wish I would have saved something like that from the first car too… I will, for sure, save something off of this one too!
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
That’s pretty cool! I didn’t know that… 9 was always my number when I played little league as a kid (Bill Elliott was my favorite race car driver and he was #9 at the time). I started racing stock cars locally when I got out of high school and tried to get 9 again, but it was already taken. So I took 19 and had a lot of success with it, so I’ve kept using it ever since.
