I thought it would be neat to make some specimen jars for a few different types of slime. It’s still a work in progress as I plan to add a small warning label to the jars and do a bit of touching up (like painting the underside of the light so it doesn’t shine through the bottom.
The first pic is of the two nearly complete jars and a test for black slime. The black slime is turning out to be a little tough, as the slime from the game was black but appeared to have a mix of different colors and still kept its translucency. I’ll probably put it in the jar with the red lid to stress its caustic nature.
The next pic is of the display lit up. Though you can’t tell in the pics, the pink slime has a few streams of purple through it, just like the slime from the subway in GBII. These pics make it look more purple than pink, but in actuality it’s a brilliant pink.
It’s still kinda rough, but hopefully it’ll turn out ok. I’ll put a bag of Stay-Puff marshmallows in front, as well as a PKE once I (eventually) get one.
The jars are $1 each from Big Lots. The light was $8 from Wal-Mart I got a while ago but never used. I just put some electrical tape across the front lights then painted over the whole thing except for an inch wide slit under the jars.
Thank you! And yes, please do! I’m anxious to see other peoples take on something similar to give me new ideas. It’s remarkably inexpensive and easy. I’d also like to see how anyone makes some black slime.
They’re intended to look similar, yes. The ones in the game are a lot larger, more cylindrical and have a cork (but the same type of clasps to keep it closed).
I wanted ones that were smaller… mostly because I don’t have room for the big ones. I chose the rounded jars to make the glowing effect a little more stylized. I also added the caution stripes to the tops of the jars to imply the technology involved is similar to that of a trap to keep the slime from expanding or escaping.
I made some slime containers for my wife to carry on her belt at conventions using some racket ball containers and a D-ring, then filled them with shampoo and body wash, just like you’re using. It’s cheap and smells good!
Once we start on the inside of our ecto we plan to fill the clear canister on the cabinet with slime and underlight it. It was part of aoxygen system and has the gauge still on it. We might put some kind of label on it.
Speaking as a paramedic, that actually looks like the on board suction. In which case… it’s kind of made for holding slime anyway. Those things can get pretty skanky.
Thanks for the clarification 33rd. We actually have a portable suction as well we found under the floorboards. We cleaned it up and may put slime in it as well and set inside.
