Oh I can see it now…the hotel is in flames, and they still charge him 4 big ones for the “work” they’ve done.

Agreed, Egon would’ve been overwhelmed. 
Which is why the rule of “never bust alone” was formed… even tho Egon later broke that in the cartoon.
The man’s got a point… of course, then he was trying to stop a big problem from becoming a massive one, and there was no one else he could ask for help. Remember, it took a good bit of coersion to get Egon to allow the EGBs to try to beat that thing…
