Hey fans and propsters,
I am curious as to how many of us are working on (at any point in the production stage) a GB fan film. I have read GB Ty’s post as well as several others and I was hoping we could share ideas and tips on what is making or has made the experience good or bad. I like the idea of sharaing teaser posters and trailers as well as keeping a running update as to how the films are going. What does everybody think?
For ghostbusters, also I’ve had plans for a MST3k fanvid for a long time, but fans are difficult to find in the UK… Both subjects would use new characters (the working title for the second was MST3UK). I have friends who have been involved in many many fanvids, mostly of Doctor Who origin, and I think the one lesson I’ve learnt from their projects is get everything storyboarded properly. Never just film one take, Never just film one angle, and always rehearse. Funniest thing i’ve seen happen is such a long break between one set of filming and the next is the ‘companion’ for the story passed THROUGH Puberty in the meantime (growth spurt and voice dropped). So Mature teenager exits Tardis… BAM, he’s a kid. Thankfully they used some extra footage of him going back into the Tardis, filmed a new interior scene where they actually covered it with a storyline McGuffin.
I’ve got an idea for a GB Fan Film, but it is very ambitious, and includes at least one Hudson Hawk reference, as well as the destruction of the Millenium Eye. So yeah, maybe a bit too ambitious, or is it? Computers and models can do a lot. A lot of people do stuff with CGI now, when you could get a better effect with a model effects sequence… But the thing is… stuff like that. It’s all in Post. So if you do all your filming in three months, and then post takes 2 years… so what. At least you don’t age from scene to scene…
I think some of the best fanvids out there atm are Trek/Wars… because they have a level of obsession that is previously UNKNOWN TO MANKIND. I mean, as scary as this place can be… it’s nothing compared to your die hard trek fan. But it makes for impressive fanvids. Best Ghostbusters? FvG, and the sequel currently in Post. Those guys have balls. I don’t think I’d act in the movie. I’d rather find Ghostbusters fans with actual acting experience. Too often it seems to fall to ‘I’m gonna right the script, give this guy the best lines, and THEN TAKE ALL THE BEST LINES…’. And the thing turns into an ego trip and frequently implodes.
I know there’s a UK fanvid currently in production, and goddam, do i wish them the best and look forward to seeing it. And who knows, maybe when the dust has settled from that, I’ll unleash my script, and see what happens.

Anyways, so far as in the preduction of Ghostbusters: Joliet Section, well. it’s kinda hit a brick wall with all the building on the car, and shoobie’s pack still not being done. However, I have gotten quite a bit done on script, though it all needs tweaking tweaking tweaking. Those who’ve read it really like it, and our secretary was so enthused she was already practicing her lines :lol:
Here is the teaser poster from my fan film “Ghostbusters: Resurrection” It was made by my friend Andy (co-star/editor/ asst. director).
The story is basically about the Gbs taking on Death himself. Which raises the questions; if they bust Death, will people stop dying and will they be out of a job?
