Fan made Ghostbusters 3

Guys…what you think about an international fan made GB3 ? I live in Italy and i WANT to see another gb movie, don’t matter how.

If we join togheter it could be a very nice adventure…i can write a script and you are more specialized in fan movie making than us in Italy.

Tell me what you think about it.

P.S i know, my english is not very good…i hope you understand what i wrote!

the thing is we dont own the right to make it!! plus it gonna be very expensive!!! sorry mate not trying to burst your bubble or anything

That doesn’t mean one can’t be done for internet release. I’m assuming this would be more along the lines of Freddy VS Venkman, right?

I’d be willing to help out with the script, whether it’s writing, or re-writing. What’s the premise you were looking for, if you don’t mind my asking. Were you wanting to just use the idea for GB3 that Ramis has mentioned in the past, or something completely original?

Chris

something completely original of course! I’m an actor ( theatre) and i know how is bad use an idea from another mind.

We can make this thing and we may also ship it to Aykroyd or Ramis…only for their enjoyment. They could use OUR idea for any future GB3 script, or, modify our movie and release it. They will not have studio costs or production costs (but i know it’s a very sci-fy dream).

P.S: how is my english?

It’s a good idea have written a couple different scripts for ghostbusters movies. and wanted to start a website that came out with a webisode every month. But alas I’m the only GB that i know that has been trying to do it to no avail. it would be hard to do in terms of how everyone would film and where to send it. also we need effects. there is alot to consider. before taking the next step, but if your in then i’m in. it can be done!!!

P.S. Your English is pretty good.

Well, like I said, I can help out with the script, be it writing or proofreading. I’d be willing to help out in whatever ways I can.

And, yes, your English is good. Better than alot of people I know who’s first language is English, in fact.

Chris

For Chris and Ectoman (and anyone would be involved):

I have an idea for a script…

The movie is located in a far future (not too far, 2090-2100) and NOBODY remember who were the Ghostbusters. Nobody remember that in late 80’s there were a team of Ghostbusters.

At the end of this century everything is like 2005: no flying car or similar sci-fy gadgets. (so we can shoot in location without modify them)

Only one thing is totally different: parapsicology is now considered a very serious part of science and everybody believe in supernatural phenomena.

In this story there is a group of paranormal detectives with normal

equipment(stuff that REAL paranormal detectives use everyday). When they find a real ghost, a minister of church make an exorcism to give peace to him:this is absolutely normal for everyone who live in 2090,and this work well with kind souls: the point is that when BAD souls return to our dimension there’s nobody that you gonna call!!

So, this team of detectives start to study these bad phenomena and re-invent the idea at the base of original Ghostbusters (remember: they don’t know that in 1980 the Ghostbusters exist!).

They make a new proton pack (without knowing that it is a ‘proton pack’)

and a sort of ghost trap. This new equipment don’t catch ghost but DESTROY them (the pack paralize the ghost and the trap’s beam breaks unions between ectoplasmic molecules). But they are not yet the new ghostbusters. They don’t have ecto-1, they don’t have a fire house and they don’t have suits or containment unit: they use this stuff only to make their work more easy.

This is the plot. If you like it i’ll write the rest of the story. This kind of movie give us more advantages: nobody know how is the future, so we can make our movie in every location, and for a big part of the movie we don’t need special effects ( they use normal equipment!).

I’m waiting for your answer!!

I don’t know. I think it would be cool, but every single over-the-internet fan film project of any kind that I’ve ever seen either never even got off the ground, or was only even partially completed before people gave up. It’s just not feasible to organize something of that magnitude when access is so limited. First, we don’t all live in one, centralized area. You’re probably talking about actors having to drive long distances to meet together and film. When it comes time for editing and FX, you have to find a way to transfer the footage from person to person, because simply sending it over the internet would require multiple compressions that would really do a number on the video quality. It’s just a great, big logistics nightmare. Heck, a movie is enough of a great big logistics nightmare when the people working on it are actually working in close proximity, let alone when they’re spread all across the globe.

I don’t want to be a pessimist or anything, it’s just that I’ve been a part of some of these projects, and people lose interest and enthusiasm quickly. It would really only work if one of us took it upon himself to do it with people in his area (prefferably someone with some movie/fan film experience).

DVD, your enthusiasm is commendable. But, I would have to agree with most of the people here. I don’t want to be a killjoy, because I love ghostbusting as much as anyone, but it’s not OUR original idea, and I think we would just have to accept that if anyone should make it, it should be Akroyd & Ramis.

As far as fan films go, they are usually good only when they are kept to about 15 minutes or less, and just made for the sake of humor. Some people just go overboard. Reminds me of the Star Wars fan film that some people made in Georgia or somewhere- they raised like $20,000 of their own money and made a Star Wars film with lightsaber battles and starships and whatnot. The special effects were great, but the acting was really wooden. It was incredible to me, because they could have taken that $20,000, written an original script with original characters, used the special effects and talent they had and create something so much more mind-blowing. Instead- will they be remembered? Well, in the SW community they will, but probably not in the general public.

This is not meant to dissuade you from creating a GB film if you want. But- you’re in Italy, that’s a long way from people in the States (which I’m willing to bet is 85% or more of the people on this board). You should keep working at the script, and see if there are any actors in your area that would like to play roles in it. They don’t necessarily have to love GB, they may just want to break into acting. That’s enough motivation for most people.

As for the idea that you have now, here’s my thought: the original film and its sequel were rife with humour. That’s the biggest ingredient. Don’t overlook it. Let’s assume that, in the future, there are friendly ghosts and there are unfriendly ones. People have learned to co-exist with friendly ones, but the evil ones are still wreaking havoc. The government puts a call out for ideas on how to get rid of the problem. Lots of entries by several groups / auditioning process, etc. (you could have a montage here). One group of three guys manages to wow the brass, but in reality, they’re clods. They have no idea how to catch ghosts- they won by sheer trickery, because they were driven by the idea of major $$. So, in order to keep the job, they begin doing massive research (cramming). That’s when they come across the story of the original ghostbusters- you don’t have to mention them by name, just say “these four guys in the past” or something. Then, the new “ghostbusters” could begin designing the weapons to fight the ghosts from the original schematics, but with a futuristic look. As the weeks pass, the “clods” start making major headway, and by movies end, they end up saving the day (redemption). The story could go from there…

That’s my input, but if you need guidance with anything else, I’m into cinematography, and of course propmaking.

I don’t know, I think there can be a place for those higher production value fan film projects (besides, they’re not all bad; I liked KnightQuest, Duality, and Broken Allegiance). One thing it does is it gives people experience. If they made a SW film with high production values (ie, camerawork, sets, editing, effects, etc), they could then take what they learned from that experience and then improve upon it for an original film (practice, essentially).

It can also give people good stuff for their portfolio. For example, if a CG artist worked on a SW fan film and did a really snazzy job, they might be able to use some of that stuff to show to people who may want to hire them what kind of work they’re capable of. Though, I admit, this would hold true for an original film as well, but it would be good practice for CG artist before moving onto more serious things.

It also can build up a fan-base. People who watched a short (10-30/40 minutes)SW fan film would be much more likely to give an original film made by the same people a chance, whereas a previous unknown who made an original film and released it on the net would have a much harder time finding people willing to download & watch it (especially if it was a longer film).

Something you have to consider is that if a group of people shells out several thousand dollars and makes a SW fan film that has spectacular effects, but a lame story and lame acting, an original film made by the exact same group would probably still have the same problems. If the thousands of dollars didn’t produce a decent story and acting in a fan film, it probably wouldn’t produce a decent story or acting in an original film.

Now, if a group of people spends a ton of cash to make a serious fan film that is good all around (including acting and story), I might see your point a little more, because that same amount of money probably would produce a pretty good original film. However, in this case, this group could apply their experience to greater things. Plus, it’s not like that money would have gone completely down the toilet. Most of the more expensive purchases like high-end cameras, or computers loaded with editing, FX, and/or CG programs could be re-used on other projects

All I was saying is that after $20,000 spent, they could never enter it in Sundance, or Cannes, or any festival such as that. Were it an original film, they could. Just seems a shame is all.

But, yes, they do gain experience from such a project, and they will probably become better filmmakers because of it.

For Fifth beatle:

You’re idea is very nice (i don’t forgot humor: it comes out with the development of script)…and i was thinking on a carachter called Richard Tully (Louis was his grandfather), an old man that meet these new GBs and tell them the story of original GBs. So, for the final battle of the movie, they became officially the New Ghostbusters.

You’re right about our different countries so i’ve think that i could write the script and send it to anyone would be interested in making this fan movie. I have to write it in italian then translate in english.

Here in Italy we’re not specialized in fan film making…and i’ve read and see on internet that you in USA have more possibility (pc software, props makers etc…)

Hey DVD!

I host a tutorial for proton beans on photoshop, that you can use at your film.

Hope this could help you in your production time!

If they had to hand draw each frame of a particle stream… wooo!

But, if they’d be willing to do that, it might make a nice and fluid stream, but also show great dedication.

Apologies in advance if some parts of the tutorial are a bit confusing. Vinicius, again, thanks for helping get the tutorial out to more people.

Thank you for beams tutorial!!!
