Finding the right screws for the Clippard Valves?

When I molded my Clippard Valve I molded it with the mounting screws attached because I could never find that type of screw head at the hardware store. I thought that maybe they were custom made by Clippard, but that theory was debunked when recently I was repairing an old desk lamp and discovered that it used the exact same size of screw head and type. That might be a big “duh” to some of you, and if it is then perhaps you know where to find the correct screw head. I contacted Clippard and they said they were using “captivated screw with 10-32 threads” on the R-701 valve, but my Google search didn’t really land me anything remarkable, so I just started searching for various types of screw heads and found that the ones on the Clippards are Fillister Head Machine Screws.

So anyway, if you get at Clippard Valve casting and want to find the right screw to mount it, you’re looking for a Fillister Head Machine Screw. The head’s diameter is pretty close to 1/4". If anyone can find the right screw to order online please let us know. Those who cast resin valves might consider buying them in bulk and including them with their casts (just a thought!).

Great find on the info there TC.If I see any for sale anywhere I will let you guys know.

I’ll check with my bolt supplier and see if they carry that specific bolt, Thanks TC. I’ve been using #10-32 Pan head machine screws with a slotted and robertson end.

If I can get them I’ll include them with my resin casts as well as offer them up for anyone who needs them.

I think the actual bolts used on the valves are a bit different from the pic you posted, I’ll have to check

I can get them easy enough but only in 100 lots in stainless from my wholesale supplier…

Yep fillister head screws are correct. I had found a source online for them a couple years ago, I’d have to check to see if I still have the link anywhere. If I find it I’ll be sure to post it.

From what I can tell, the bolt head is dead on, but the threads are different. There is a similar screw that I believe is called “Cheese head”, and the difference is that the top of the head is flat instead of bubbled like the Fillister.

FYI the local ACE Hardware had these as a stock item, with a Philips head and in 10-24

While we are at it, what about the bolt being used on the Banjos? What is that?

Slotted Hex is what they are called, but most likely proprietary in design, as most I have see are not correct not saying you won’t find a close version but the ones I have seen are not right…

As you can see the Nycoil versions are pretty straight up, very little roll over on the top, but it is there ever so slightly…

The Legris has a much bigger roll over…

Most of the over the counter ones I have seen have a raised lip around the edge rather then a roll over, as seen in this pic

I dont know if anyones mentioned this but the screws used for the R-331 valve are allen heads (socket cap screws), atleast thats whats on the PL New York/Minnesota hero packs.

The R-701 Valve on the wand still uses the factory issued screws

I noticed that as well. Haven’t compared it to the other packs.

I was getting a resin Clippard for my pack ready this weekend and needs some help figuring what screw to use. TC did you figure out what type of screw to use? Did you find it local? I was thinking about just going to home depot and picking up some allen head screws like in the picture.

Slotted fillisters

You might get lucky, but I’ve never seen them locally.

No Home Depot or Lowes I have ever been to has had them. You might luck out if you have a mom-and-pop hardware store close to you… otherwise online is your best bet. (I use fastenal for my online screw purchases)

I can get these no problem.

If there is a demand, I will carry them!

While we’re talking about screwy things, what about the screws used to mount the resistors to the ion arm?

Thanks for the info! I’m having problems finding these smaller socket head bolts at the local Lowes so looks like a trip to Fastenal is in the future.
