Firehouse meets 3D Studio Max

As the final Major Project (FMP) for my E-Media course, we’re pretty much able to do anything we want (Within reason).

With this in mind, I’m adapting a section of a story I wrote some years ago to turn into a 3D Animation, and as said animation is set in New York, a few familiar landmarks will be making an appearance, including an old haunt:

If there’s any time left over at the end, I hope to model some of the interior as well.

Great work there…look forward to seeing the finished building! After seeing your other work, the firehouse will I’m sure look fantastic!

You are a very talented man!

 That is awesome!!! You know what would be cool, is to have the doors open and the ectomobile sitting there… Great job, can’t wait to see the finished product.

Aha ah ha…

I don’t think I’m skilled enough yet to replicate a 1959 Meteor Miller Cadillac with all the trimmings…

You did a brick building really well, even matched the diferentiating(sp) colors of certain bricks, very well done I’d say. C’mon guys give him a round of applause to make a Ecto! HOORAY

Eh, it’s a bog standard brick texture in 3D Max… I’m planning on doing custom texture work for the final model to suggest weathering and add extra realism. I’ll have to see if I can mimic the differing shades of brick with that.

…O.

An update before I’m in NY for five days (It means the next update will be after something like after the 28th of March).

Firstly, a sneak preview of another familiar GB locale… although updates may be fewer and far between as don’t have a reason for including this in the FMP.

Only one custom texture… still working out the full geometry and design…

Now, the Firehouse…

After finishing the main cuboid of the building, and after collapsing the stack I found out the textures weren’t working right… I’d made it as two separate rectangles for the first and second floors, and then as a separate for the third floor… and the textures on the first/second floors just screwed up, so I had to redo the cuboid. It did allow me to redo the arched window and archway, as I’d worked out how to make the curve nice and smooth. So well worth it.

Remember, make cuboid buildings as one solid object, then add the detailing.

The doorway actually features windows above the double doors… but I’m not sure if I liked how they came out. (Not pictured)

looks great ben
