First Impressions of Ghostbusters Video Game on PS3/360/PC

That seems fair, which weapons did you not like? out of curiosity

The shock blast/stasis stream I didn’t care for and the meson collider was pretty cool but wasn’t needed much i found

I’ve logged about 2.5 hours on it so far, and I’m really just taking my time doing things.

I’m really impressed at the level of detail, and the controls feel really natural once you get the hang of them.

I’m still getting used to switching off the PKE meter and keeping an eye on the location of the traps I toss, though.

Also… loved the alternate PKE meter and trap models in the basement… even though I sizzled them with my thrower afterward. LOL

After getting the game at midnight I’ve already beat it twice and logged about 4 hours online. It’s a great game with a lot of replayablility. I just hope that the whole gang and sony realize that they have a new ghostbusters franchise on their hands and in theory could keep making games that are canon to the GB mythos. Here’s to hoping for some downloadable content.

Overall I give the game a solid 9. It kept my attention, and I didn’t get bored busting ghosts like I thought I might. The only thing that keeps this from being a 10 is the lip syncing errors that slipped through on a few of the loading clips. They had a year to fix it and for some reason it wasn’t .

Oh, and I found the stasis weapon and the meson collider pretty well useless during overall gameplay . Fun little extras, but not really needed.

This game, is amazing. It’s captured the ghostbusters, it’s been 20 years since we’ve seen the boys in grey, But I say it’s been worth the wait.

The game is friggin’ awesome. I am really enjoying it thus far. The controls are really good and the catching and trapping works really well! It’s just fun to play! The story is ok. There is like zero chemistry between Venkman and Ilyssa. Would be cool to drive around the city in the ecto. I wonder if it woulda been cool to have it more open ended, like choose what missions to go on. I am enjoying the roller coaster ride though.

I was excited for the game…more excited for it than anything else in recent memory (on a superficial level).

All I can say is that I am tickled to death and it’s just so frigging fun and a joy to play. I normally would never say something like that…but it’s true.

Is this a full on movie? No. But the dialog/banter is hilarious, roaming around is fun, and it’s making me feel the way I did when I first really watched the movie in '86/'87 (3-4 yrs old). When I was 5-6, and 'busting ghosts like they did on RGB, I had this feeling.

It’s just plain FUN.

I can’t get enough of it. It delivers on what we’ve been waiting for…when I played “Luigi’s Mansion” and thought, “damn, GB could live on in video games the way OO7 has,” this is what I was envisioning.

I just finished it, most of my complaints lie in the story. It seemed a little RGBish rather than another Ghostbusters movie, but overall I thought it was pretty sweet.

I wanted to throw my controller at the screen during a couple of parts, one in particular, but I thought they did a fantastic job with the whole ghost capturing system it was really fun.

Can’t wait for my next play through!

I went to three different Game Stops last night expecting a midnight release.

I finally did get a copy at 1am at a Wal-Mart. I played for six hours straight without realizing it. I was still playing when I noticed sunlight coming through the blinds. Wow, I sure am tired. I took a few nap breaks and now I’m on the grave yard. This is the best game ever.

I was going to go to Game Stop and ask for my pre order money back, but I was too busy playing the game – no thanks to Game Stop.

Awesome game! My Son and I were playing it for most of the night.

My little brothers flipped out when I showed them the game. I’m waiting for my PS2 version to come in so we can play together. Right now we’re taking turns doing missions.

I picked it up at about 11 this morning and felt like a goofy ■■■■■■■ the whole drive home. I was so giddy. I wish I had requested today off because the the five hour interruption for work was torture. This game is a ton of fun. I really didn’t want to put the controller down. I got home from work about three hours ago and this is the first time I’ve taken a break from playing since.

As far as the story goes, so far… it’s not phenomenal, but it’s not like anyone was expecting it to be the greatest tale ever told. It’s a game, so it works just fine for me. The more I think about it, though, I really like the return of Gozer and Shandor. I was worried it would just be a tired retread, but instead I think it just gives it a really interesting and deep mythology. It doesn’t feel forced at all. Everyone did a great job of getting back into character and the dialogue is great, which to me is more important than the plot. Some of the jokes are really really strong.

The only real cons I’ve found with it are the bits where the audio is off-sync and the fact that some of the cutscenes look absolutely amazing and nearly lifelike, while others just aren’t quite there. I think the scene on the boat before Shandor Island in particular looks fantastic.

So yeah, I’m absolutely loving it. I’m happily surprised that it’s truly very funny and genuinely creepy at times.

Enough rambling, time to make my eyes burn some more. I wish Xbox Live would hurry up and start working again.

Just finished the game, played it straight through, no breaks took me 9 hours. Gotta love running your own business and taking a day off haha.

Its a spectacular game that is a ton of fun to play. The capping and trapping is NOT repetative and its fun to fight and wrangle all the ghosts.

My only complaint is that there are parts of the game that are supposed to serve as just level checkpoints which are HARDER than the boss battles. Anyone who has played the game on the last level I am sure knows what i am talking about. I am all for a challenge, but there are some A.I. issues in that particular sequence.

Other than that, great game.. hilarious dialogue brilliant cut scenes both pre-rendered and not.

Cant wait to play agian!

OH BTW..youdont really need the game guide, its pretty linear, BUT it will help in terms of finding all the goodies.

Have fun and enjoy it!

First impression…this game is awesome! It really does pull you in. I find myself talking back to the screen. I actually feel like I am on a team and when I’m separated and flying solo it’s scary as hell. The interactivity is certainly well done. On the technical side though there are issues.

Game play itself doesn’t seem repetitive. There are enough breaks between ghosts you blast and ghosts you trap to keep things from getting boring. In fact I wanted MORE trappable ghosts in some spots.

I must say I really do love this story. They really expanded on the gray ladies story. I thought the library level was going to be kind of “meh” but it really was extensive with a lot of action and key story points. Reading all the back stories of the human ghosts is creepy and sad sometimes. Ghostbusters is such a great comedy I forget just how creepy it can get too.

I could have done without Illyssa though. Maybe it’s the actress but she falls a little flat. I don’t really like that she knows all about Gozer. Dana was a good character because she was a strong woman who Peter couldn’t trick into bed with just his charm. Illyssa (so far anyway) has this weird flakeyness to her. She’s too…spunky. Basically alyssa milano is playing the same character she has been playing since Who’s the Boss. The tough and spunky ■■■■■■■■■. When it comes to playing an adult role though…she falls short.

As for game play length, maybe some of you who are experienced gamers can get through the game fast, but I’m not a ■■■■■■■■ gamer so to me the game seems pretty extensive. I’m playing the PC version (only next gen system I have is Wii) and for 30 bucks the game play value seems pretty high to me, but again I have nothing to really compare it to. If I had paid 60 though I might want more career mode levels, but the again I’d have multiplayer.

So in short, so far so good.

I had pre-ordered my game months in advance and picked it up yesterday at 9 AM.. played it ever since.. I’m on the final mission at the cemetary right now and I do have to say that Atari and Terminal Reality did an INCREDIBLE job on this game and their love and hard work shows..

However.. I have several complaints.. Yes.. I know.. complaints on this game?? .. well.. I would have liked to have driven the ECTO-1B.. as well the game felt very short and seemed to be over even before I started.. and finally - two things - the lip-synching in some scenes was actually worse than watching a cheap martial arts redub, and Bill Murray’s voice acting was at times absolutely terrible.. he tended to mumble a lot into the mic..

Other than that this has got to be one of, if not THE best video game based on a movie that I’ve ever played.. hands down.. it was well worth the wait - and I am glad I added it to my 360 collection..

Definitely a must have game for any Ghostbusters fan!

This game is by far one of my favorite games. Maybe it’s biased because I’m a ghosthead growing up with all that is ghostbusters. However, I think if I came into this game not knowing much about the Ghostbusters it would still be in my top 10. The one liners are great. I wish there was more to interact with in the firehouse, but still enough to keep you from getting bored between missions. The game mechanics are very good as far as catching ghosts. Overall I think this game rocks, and I don’t see myself ever getting bored of it. My face still hurts from the giant grin I had on my face the entire 5 hours playing last night. Can’t wait to tackle the multiplayer.

I’m having a great time with the game. Wrangling and hunting with the PKE meter is great.

Since everything else is positive, I’ll only list my negatives.

I don’t like how they magically upgrade the packs mid-mission instead of at the firehouse between missions.

There’s a long loading time when you die.

When you finish the 2nd hotel mission you go right into the next scene and it seems like there should have been a cutscene or something to explain what the heck just happened and why you are where you are.

Also, I’m not a big CGI fan, but if they did an animated GB movie and it looked like these pre-rendered scenes then I’d be all for it.

4 hours in and i’m impressed, the packs handle the way you think they would, The adds to the packs are pretty fun, but, seem to come a really odd times .. I found trapping a delight, couldn’t stop a stupid grin appearing on face every five seconds… I did have issue with a massive glitch in the libary (picture stopped but, sound continued), a little cool thinking and steay movement soon resolved the issue, other than that the gameplay is quite smooth and enjoyable..

The cgi cuts are ■■■■■■■ imense, they look and play beutifully, on the other hand the in game cuts aren’t as beutiful, but, quality wise their not the worst I’ve seen, not by a long shot.

At times it seemed like there was to much happening on screen , everything gets a little hetic, like you can’t move for flames, but, that said, I never found my self truely confused.

I can’t wait to play online, haven’t been able to reach a game yet though… Saying all that, I love gb and even if it was ■■■■ poor, which, thank god it’s not, I’d still be playing it!

add me on psn johnbusters09

For me, so far the only negative ended up actually being a positive. That is that it took a little bit of getting used to. Shooting at the ghosts and trying to wrangle them into a trap, I kept having trouble at first. That is actually a positive, though, because wouldn’t you imagine that is kind of what it would be like in real life if you actually were a newly hired Ghostbuster?

That, and the only other bad thing (which is again really a good thing) I can say is that I keep getting so excited to play that I forget to listen to the Ghostbusters talking. Luckily, I caught myself doing that early and just restarted that level.

Overall, though, I am absolutely hooked! I only play a little bit at a time. I don’t like to play for countless hours and then beat a game right away. I like to play a little bit each day and have a game for a while. But, it is hard to turn the game off each time, and I am always just looking forward to get back to it again! I am extremely pleased! It was well worth the wait!
