First pics.....

OK, boys and girls, be gentle please.

Everything you’re about to see cost a grand total of £40. The pack has been built entirely from what we could find around my father-in laws house.

So far all I have bought is:

1 large can of spray black enamel, 1 small can of silver

1 black pistol belt, a pair of patches.

1 tan flight suit

1 set of ALICE pack straps

1 set of knee pads (not in pics)

1 pair of gloves (99p!)

1 length of ribbon cable

Everything else has been free. The clear tubing and green tubing came from the Hospital where my wife works. The name patch needs to move down, it’s not fixed on yet anyway. Just need to properly connect my leg-hose and get some boots sorted.

It’s all for a Halloween party that’s raising money for Cancer Research

So here’s the first shots of me with pack and uniform.

I know it’s nothing near the frankly awesome standard you guys have built but bear in mind what its for and what it cost! Pics aren’t great as I took them with my mobile. I’ll get some better ones when I can.

Got my old (and knackered) RGB trap out of the loft and stripped it down and painted it:

I still need to touch up some of the paint, and add some decals, but it’s nearly there. I think the green tubing is quite Ghostbusters in feel. I’ve got a few belt gizmos I am working on and hope to add goggles, too. I still don’t have a way to attach the thrower to the pack yet, which I need to sort!

So there you go, it’s not perfect, but it should be good fun, and raise some laughs and cash for a really important cause, and it’s a million miles better than the crappy rubber inflatable ones on eBay with those nasty boiler suits.

For £40, that’s nothing to scoff at. Try soaking your leg hose in hot water to get rid of the curling so it will hang more naturally.

By the way, what brand of flight suit is that? You don’t see many that have the screen-accurate shiny zippers like that.

Good luck with the event!

Thanks for the leg hose tip, it looks much better now. I’m not sure what brand the suit is, it cost me £20, the label is badly faded, but I’ll have a proper look and see if I can work it out.

Any ideas how I can attach the thrower to the pack?

I too am pretty impressed with what you’ve done! Nice work man…

Thanks dude. Appreciate the positive feedback. Finished up the trap today, so now just need to work out how to attach the thrower to my pack. How do the pros do it?

Yeah, very impressive for 40 bucks. I dig it.

I paid that just for my flight suit haha :sigh:

Most people tend to use a dixie cup bracket to attach the neutrona wand to the pack; the real packs used a similar bracket that is usually called a “v-hook”. However, if you’re on a budget, you might find some sort of inexpensive sliding bracket at your local hardware store.

Thanks again for the positive comments, means alot.

As for the brand of my suit, I don’t think I’ll ever know, the label in the back is very badly faded, I guess it’s quite old!

Looks awesome. I can’t believe you only spent £40!

You’ll be the hit of the party!

I got a flush mount from my local hardware shop so the thrower now cuddles up nicely with the pack. While I was there I saw a pair of safety goggles for £1, so I’m working on a pair of goggles now, too!

Pics to follow of my goggles.

Where did you get the flightsuit from?

Seriously for under 40 quid that is awesome! The biggest thing that I get from packs like this is - Is there an honest attempt and is it recognizable - you score high on both accounts. Plus it’s for a good cause! Can’t wait to see how your goggles come out. Keep up the good work!

eBay mate. The only problem I’ve found is that the pocket on the left breast, is quite high. I’ll try and post a few more pics later since my patches are now in place thanks to my mother in law!

Suited & booted:

Our Jack Russell is keen to come and help me, I think! Still need to work on the leg hose and I’m tempted to ditch the elbow pads since they’re not right, but other than that, I’m pretty pleased.

I also need to suck in the gut a little, I’m a Ghostbuster…

OK so here’s a breakdown of my costs:

1 large can of spray black enamel, 1 small can of silver : £5.00

1 black pistol belt: £2.00

A pair of patches: £5.00

1 tan flight suit: £20

1 set of ALICE pack straps £5.00

1 set of knee pads £2.00

1 pair of gloves: 99p

1 length of ribbon cable: 99p

1 pair of safety goggles: £1.99

Pack materials: Free

Boots: Free

Caribiner hooks (1 large, 1 small): Free

Section of Dog car harness (!) (to hang from my belt, it’s got the right clip on the end!) Free

Length of ‘Elephant’ tubing for leg hose: Free

Length of Oxygen tubing, for trap and pack detailing: Free

Trap: Free (repaint of my RGB toy)

Total comes to £42.97.

Hopefully it achieves the feeling of Ghostbusters. I’ve got that PKE video on my HTC as well as the ESP Cards app for extra fun detailing. I figure that any modern Ghostbuster would have tools on his smartphone!

Good job!

Thanks mate.

Well the knee pads weren’t working, so I found these on eBay for £4. I just hope they’re here and I can dye them by Thursday.

Quicker to spray them with grey primer if you have any.

Ah, cool. Nice idea. I do have some primer. Fingers crossed they will be here. It’s not the end of the world if they don’t but they’d finish it all off if they do!

Well done, for the money spent it’s fantastic, good luck with the money raising!
