Hey Guys!!
Last Weekend was the BoomCon, the first ever professional Latin American Comics, Animation and pop Culture Convention in Costa Rica.
I HAD to go and decided to put my GB equipment together for it.
Except for the Ecto Goggles, Radio and the belt gizmo I was able to put everything in presentation order in under 2 Days!!!
I almost went insane.
The Pack was, of course the hardest to assemble but in the rush I think I did a fine job on it. I am well aware that I need to fix some things like changing some types of bolts and screws here and there and somehow I managed to loose the rear handle grip! so I used a piece of ribbed tubing for the time being but I’m now molding a replacement in balsa wood.
One thing I want to say about it though is that I never meant to recreate a fully accurate replica of any of the 4 originals. My flightsuit has my last name on it because I’m all about the branch offices in the rest of the world and so I wanted to recreate a pack that you can see in any of those offices.
I decided to leave the grey ALICE frame unpainted and I still need to add the padding to the neck bar and the most notorious mistake I made was to leave the spacing between the proton collider’s frontal handle bar and the box too narrow. What happened is that I was able to add the squared block but didn’t had the space to add the bronze washer to the side. I said what the hell and glued it to the angled side. It looks good and no one but a really anally retentive Ghosthead will notice this detail. I don;t mind it myself really.
So the Con was saturday and sunday and I started the build on friday night at 8 o clock… I ran until 2 pm on saturday, took a 4 hour nap and got back at it again and continued until i placed the last decal on it at 5:30 am of sunday. I missed one Con day but I had the suit ready Thanks in no small measure to my awesome Wife that helped me by stabilizing the parts as I drilled, passed on tools and glue and helped with the flightsuit in several parts. Man I love that woman!
it’s important to say that in my country NOBODY had ever done a Ghostbuster costume like mine. we had seen a Jeannine (real Ghostbusters) with a cardboard proton pack and another dude with a costume that was a good effort but again was cardboard and really was low quality and that was it.
As soon as Got in the place I was swarmed and even the invited actors took pics with me… that was really something!
Even CNN (spanish) came and interviewed me along some other costumes there! that was awesome.
So here’s the few pics I’ve been able to collect from friends and facebook, the CNN news video (sorry that’s in spanish folks) and a video I made on tuesday to show the pack off.
let me know what you think guys!
the CNN guys
This is Chris J. Simpson, he’s a stunt actor mostly know for being Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Stunt Double and the Weasley Twins double. He was awesome to talk to and very very humble. I had my Darth Vader suit with me and told him as a joke if he would like to complete the circle and be Darth Vader and he took it seriously and Wore my Darth Vader suit for about an hour! he signed the helmet for me and all. That was such an honor for me!
