I’m about to finally do the paint job on my pack, but I’m getting a little worried. The main base of it has been made out of foam board while some of the minor details like fins have been done by using a product similar to foamies (http://www.guildcraftinc.com/images/products/full/353-861%205x8%20Foam%20Asst.jpg). It’s actually came out great so far, but I’m rather concerned over the paint consistency, and what could be the best suitable spray paint to use to make everything look flush with no variation in textures. I’ve been told Rustoleum, but I have no idea how it’ll take to the foam (not the foam board).
You need to find a way to seal or cover the exposed foam from the foamboard,once you do that it will paint just fine.

The foam board pieces have all been covered by bondo. It’s the actual foam bits from the “foamies” that I’m worried about. Like I said the fins were made using them, and they do look great on the pack, but just a bit worried.
you can paint foamies with plasti dip or design masters spray paint (I’ve worked ALOT with foamies making bat-suits and the like.) The plasti-dip only comes in a few colors, black red and yellow being the easyist to get. Oh and im talking about the spray can plastidip, just to be clear. you have to layer it on thick and the foamies will soak it up. Design Masters is a floral spray paint that wont eat foam. You can find it in many diffrent colors at Michaels. You need to do alot of very light coats otherwize it will crack when the foamies flex. You can also use Krylon H20 latex spray paint. I’d just use regular water washup flat black house paint for the entire thing, and then hand sand over that. The house paint is thick enough to smooth ou the foamies after a few coats, its cheap easily found, and it’ll give you entire pack a waterproof plastic coating.

Just put the primer fully on and it took great to it! Can’t wait to work more on this thing.
You could also seal it with MOD PODGE and then spray over that.
Thats why I suggested house paint… its cheaper then mod podge, and is made of of the same stuff.. plus it even comes in flat and glossy black as well.
Yeah, for my first my pack I’m extremely happy with how it’s coming off. I’ll post some pics/add it to my prop area in the next couple of days.
