For those willing to give the reboot a chance...

…what do you expect/want to see in the finished movie?

I am going in with very low expectations. What I hope to see is throughout the movie you are supposedly watching a remake, but near the end it becomes clear that it is a sequel disguised as a remake. I just want my mind blown. I am willing to give it a shot. A film that did something similar to what I would like to see was the Get Smart remake. Steve Correl was playing the same character from the TV series, at least that is the way it appeared, then throughout the movie you heard other agents talking about how their organization fought a terrorist group Chaos in the 70’s. They even had the original car, suit, and shoe phone that Don Adams used on display. He even escapes from his cell and uses the original equipment to help save the day. That is the kind of thing I am hoping to see if not something that better ties it to the original even though they keep saying that there will be no ties. I want to see ties to the original not just “Fun Nods.”

As I said in another thread, a reboot will give fresher scares and take the Ghostbusters franchise into the future even when Murray and co have all passed on.

I don’t know what to expect. I’m apprehensive about all this but I won’t be spitting venom all over it until I can see a final product.

Kristin Wiig is the only one of the four announced that I can still see maybe give us the same style of comedy that the original cast gave us… The others just don’t give me the warm fuzzy, and Paul Feig’s work is not fitting either… However, once in a blue moon, a comedian will come along and completely blow my mind with a new style of acting that we did not expect from them, so maybe Melissa McCarthy will finally give us something fresh…?!? But, most likely she won’t, especially if Paul Feig is in charge… Wishful thinking, I know… Whatever…

Low expectations; other than nods to the original classic GB’s, I don’t need to expect anything much out of the film. We just have to wait and see how it plays out.

Kate McKinnon is incredibly talented. Seriously, check out some SNL skits with her on Hulu.

As for what I am expecting going in, like someone else said, keeping expectations low. Hoping for a funny movie with maybe a bit of the old Ghostbusters combination of scares, special effects, and character development.

Right now I am putting Ghostbusters 2 up as the “top hope” of this new film. If it’s as good as GB2, I will be very happy. Anything better than that will be a very pleasant surprise.

GB1? That’s impossible to match.

She is talented and funny, I agree… it’s just that her style of comedy is not suited for Ghostbusters… that’s not the type of comedy GB ever was…

I think it’s really hard to say anything at this point. I do agree that this will more than likely be Kristin Wiig’s movie, and though I am not much of a Melissa Mccarthy fan, I think she worked better in an ensemble cast in Bridesmaid’s.

As far as Paul Feig’s work goes, I am definitely a fan. There isn’t an actor or director out there who has a perfect records but when I look at his television work and Freaks and Geeks, plus Bridesmaids, it really makes me think that this is the guy for this job.

Paul Feig has already stated that the original guys are his comedy heroes. I don’t think that he would take this job on if he didn’t have plans to pay proper respect to the source material. If you go back to Freaks and Geeks, in the course of one season, Bill Murray, Caddyshack, Stripes, and SNL are all mentioned/talked about in various scenes throughout the show. Paul obviously has a connection to those films and those actors.

Plus, Paul’s has worked closely with Judd Apatow throughout his career. They’re obviously close. Anybody who follows modern comedy knows that Harold Ramis had a HUGE influence on Judd Apatow. These things should not be forgotten moving forward. Let’s just be open minded and see how this turns out. I have a feeling, and to be honest a hope, that the movie is going to surprise a lot of people on multiple levels.

I hope so. That would be excellent.

I have to say, however, that I am not a fan of Judd Apatow and I hope Feig doesn’t try to steer the movie into that sort of territory.

If it’s anything like what the outline from the leaked Sony e-mails, than I have even lower expections than before.

I don’t have high expectations of the movie at this point

I’m hoping that it will have a decent story that in some way nods to the original. I would like to be proved wrong about what I’m guessing this movie is going to be.

The plot points mentioned in those emails were HORRENDOUS.

Hopefully, that shit is cut and/or fixed in the next run-through. If anything like that ends up getting made, this project will be a steaming pile, no matter what the gender of the cast is.

I’m expecting a decent comedy the same way the new Robocop was a decent action movie.

Not the worst way to spend 90 minutes but utterly forgettable and nowhere near the quality of the original.

Another worrying factor is the release date, which is not very far from now… which means it’s in rush production… Granted, they only had a year for the original GB as well, but Hollywood was different back then…

What do I expect to see? A hackneyed plot and CGI ghosts to start.

Really? How exactly does a reboot guarantee “fresher scares”? What does that even mean?!

Yeah…a new universe, untouched by the spectral hand may lend “fresh” scares to the characters/actors in the moment, but there’s no guarantee that the audience will feel the same way.

IMO, their best CGI (assumed) ghosties will have nothing on this:

But, then again, we have been “guaranteed” a “scarier Ghostbusters” with “hilarious women” before casting, scripting, production, etc…

it could happen? :whatever:

And that would be what I meant by “fresh scares”. I’d quite like to see that same discovery of the supernatural that the original GB’s experienced.

And the Original ‘Ghostbusters’ promised to be a lot of things too before it was scripted, cast, put into production. Why is this film any different?

What do I want to see in this reboot? I never wanted a reboot. Certainly not one with an all female cast. I’m just not exited for this film at all. I should be. I’ve been a Ghostbusters fan ever since I went to see it on its original release way back in the summer of 84 but everything I’ve heard about this film seems forced, gimmicky and uninspired. I just have no interest in it.

I’ve heard a lot of fans saying ‘I have no problem with the cast being female. The reason I’m against it is the fact that it’s a reboot’.

I’m going to be honest here. Although I’d much rather see a continuation than a reboot, my main problem with this film is the fact that the Ghostbusters are women. Call me sexist. I don’t care. I’d just much rather see men play the Ghostbusters.
