Dan, what about the idea you ran by us in the chat about individual field agents that have no franchise to be apart of?
Wait so how do you become a franchise? The Cincinnati Ghostbusters will but don’t know how :sigh: .Help please.
Yes, that will be comming. Initial regulations are being worked on, I just have to speak to some people.
This may help us out since we are still “evolving” and give us a charter (even if it’s pretend). The Masons, Oddfellow, etc all had to start somewhere. The trick is that they all have to be “non-profit” and we can’t be paying real money “dues” to the GBI or Sony will shut everything down. This site is VERY robust and it’s updated constantly. : )
What I’m thinking is split this into prop/costume Franchise and Fan-fic/script section. Personally I think someone into props should run the one, while someone into Fan-fics runs the other.
What you mean? Have Dan run the Prop-based section and Ben run the FanFic-Based section?
I’m member of both GB-Fans and GBI, and don’t see why we’d have to move GBI into GB-Fans. I don’t see this as a good idea at all.
well, maybe there could be a collaboration with links or something?
All right, start brainstorming, we need application guidelines for getting a franchise approved. Let’s take a look around, see what other costume groups are doing, but keep in mind that GBI is not meant to be the 501. We’re aiming for a casual atmosphere that will include anyone willing to pick up a proton pack and have fun!
Fan fiction franchises, you’re qualifications are pre-met. However, to avoid confusion I need your opinion; I would like to consider both a Ghostbusters International Franchise list that will direct people to costumed franchise websites, at the same time creating a Real Ghostbusters International Franchise list that will direct people to your websites or fan fictions. That way those looking to join or start a franchise will easily be able to do so, weather their strong point lay in building props or writing stories.
So let’s hear it guys, ideas for applying for “official” franchise status.
My group is both a fan fiction (comic and animation actually) group as well as a group that dresses up and stuff. I guess there wouldn’t be a third list, so would groups like mine fall into both group listings?
I like this idea because Roy Richards who whoever won’t accept us into GBI for some reason. We’re the Central North Carolina Ghostbusters.

First of all… I’d like to know the requirements for applying with GBI, and second, I have to agree with some of the people about those that are into both Costume/props, and fan fic. It may be an idea to put in a dual division, for those that do both.

Im fairly sure Rich has bigger personal issues going. He hasn’t posted for some time now.
I like this Idea also, but I think I’ll sit back and watch for now.
Ok forgive my ignorance on this I know I am new and our group has yet to get our franchise up. but I had an idead to keep things simple yet give a simple amount of order to franchising.
ok here goes.
each Franchise started registers using their area code. if the area code is not being used they become the lead HQ of the area code.
like for instance (555) area code would now be known as “Franchise 555”
now that franchise will give the firehouse # they desire in that area code.
so now let say they use “firehouse 21” it would now be known that the lead house is 21 under franchise 555.
now say other groups pop up within the same area code they would fall under the lead franchise but can designate their firehouse # to whatever they desire as long as it does not conflict with any other houses in the area.
now what this does is even if fire house say… 13 puts together a function and other houses come to the event to join them… they all work under the franchise as a team and well… to me it keeps it simple.
now in the event that there is an event set up by other franchises in an open area (someplace not claimed by a franchise.)
the rest can attend and whoever sets the event up will take lead on it.
as far as lead houses they have no right to tell another house in their franchise how to run as i would see that getting messy.
I know seems like much but it would help for a bit of order without
Guys, I understand where you’re coming from, but just a thought…
Wouldn’t it be easier if someone wanted to look up a GB team could just ask the team if they’re an active group or a group in fan fiction? I understand you want clear distinctions, but separating franchise teams from fan fic teams goes back to creating divisions in GBI and the GB Community.
I would just let any group who actively does what they do and any fan fic team who does what they do be listed under GBI. The only rules that should be necessary are if your group dresses up, if your group goes to cons (when they can), if your group builds equipment, and if your group consistently creates fan fics. Nothing more than that. And GBI would just be a central hub of support.
I agree that Fan Fiction shouldn’t be seperated under GBI as I write fan fiction myself but maybe there should be some sort of catagory list or distinction to make it easier for someone surfing to either ask a few Busters to an event or to look at Fan Art and read the Fan Fiction. I just think it would be a bit confusing to someone looking to have a few characters out and have to sift though a series of Franchises and not be able to easily find what they are looking for.
Exactly. Categorizing groups under the same company. No GBInc. No GBJabroni, No GB-Mama-Say-Knock-You-Out. Just Ghostbusters International.

Isn’t this mostly going to be a list of the franchises?? so Ben’s idea with the icons makes the most sense, or even just a table like this:
Icons or lists. Either idea (Ben’s or Mellie’s) works for me. Best to keep this as simple and user friendly as possible.
I think the GBI site is quite confusing. and well if people are not getting into costume and making themselves available for events why would they bother to open a franchise?? seems to confusing to me. please do not get me wrong i love the Fan Fic. but does that make a franchise??
but as long as I can put the costume on and have some fun and possibly do something worth while … what do I care lol.
