I’ve been looking through the forum for a while and cannot find any GB-1 Trap dimensions. Would anyone be able to help me out? I’m getting ready to cut out an aluminum trap using a plasma cutter and would prefer to build a GB-1 trap over a GB-2.
GB2 has some odd ■■■■■ in it. The court scene trap is an example of this. It has opening doors and what not but is NOT the same as the GB1 hero carry over in the ref section. Material is different (non metal cartridge), different tabs sizes near the handle. and the cartridge itself appears to be a bit smaller based on the display. The cartridge itself sits up higher in the main housing.
To me it appears to be assembled of new and old parts. I guess the question is does it classify as a “hero” trap? It does not appear to have a functioning release mechanism on it but does have opening doors and a removable cartridge. The bracket mounted on the front appears to take the place of a hook release holding in place.
My reason for that comment is the edges of the cartridge. If you look in the screen caps you will notice how sharp those edges are. (From the trap ears back) Not the nice rolled edges you see on the the GB1 hero in the ref section. Also, if you look in the pic posted it almost appears like there are visible layers of what COULD be plywood used for the cartridge walls. May be a stretch but it would make sense to why the edges are so sharp. At minimum it is safe to say that is not a rolled edge.
Brent- Do you remember back in the ASAP days when that GB-1 trap was for sale by Greg? Wish I had the money back then, because IIRC he sold it for $2,500.
A buddy of mine knows one of the guys who worked on GB2, mainly the traps. He said that there was some vacuformed parts used on some of the traps, I’m unsure which. I’m thinking it was the Background versions for the battery box and the meter box. There was some in jokes in the form of stickers on the interior of the hero traps. That box might be vacuformed but essentially are the same size as the GB1 heros.
Resently I kind of shocked ol’ Vinny of the SD Ghostbusters at the Crystalhead Vodka signing. I had my PHNY replica Trap dressed as the first movie trap it started out as:
He looked at my trap and said nice GB2 trap. I corrected him GB1, Then he said but … the smaller traps were from…and I blurted out no,no,no…STOP THAT. Should have seen that look he gave me. That rumor started years ago back before ASAP, Proptopia back in the days of the Ghostbusters Homepage and Chad’s board. I’m kind of supprised that it’s still around.
Aside from a few minor cosmetic differences, knobs, vector plate, wheels, bolts and the wall thickness on the fins the background props were pretty much the same. Even the lengths of the hero and the background are the same only the height is different by about 1/2" or so.
Looks like the aluminum plate on the front of the cartridge bends at a 90 degree angle at the bottom and continues along the underside of the cartridge. Anyone else catch this?
Yah I see what you mean, as if the whole bottom of the insert is aluminum, interesting. So much to think about with traps, I’m starting a build tomorrow morning actually.
according to this page the GB Hero trap was all metal…
This amazing look a Ghost Trap from Ghostbusters. This trap is all metal, has a detaching case, and has some of the electronics still in it. These pictures show impressive detail, and hopefully more will be on the way.
and as has been said the heros were the same size, maybe same trap just redressed
