On one of the Blu-Ray sites had the link below about Breaking Bad & some movies were getting a 4K remaster including Ghostbusters.
I just hope it’s true.

IT IS TRUE!
Sigh. Second GB1 Blu-Ray, still zero GB2 Blu-Ray release.
Pass.
Ok…so another release AGAIN!!! i don’t wanna sound like the bad guy here but this is getting stupid now so it’s gonna be in even higher quality with what
no film grain i’ll believe that when i see it…oh and again they boycott the release of ghostbusters 2 i don’t get angry or upset over stuff like this but seriously, this is getting ridiculous just release both films on 4K and i’ll be happy for them to take my money.
Calm down. It’ll be out eventually. On the bright side, GB is going to be one of the first 4k blu releases. That’s pretty neat. If the reviews show a noticeable jump in image quality on 1080p displays, I may quadruple dip for this. We’ll see.
I’m guessing this will just be the standard Blu-ray transfer, just at a higher quality. When Sony made the Blu-ray they captured the film at 4K and then scaled it down for 1080P Blu-ray. So I’m guessing all the colors and brightness will be the same as the 1080P Blu-ray. If you don’t have a 4K it probably won’t appear any different than the existing Blu-ray.
What will be cool is that this could be pretty good for reference and noticing new things if someone is pixel peeping. I don’t even know if it will be possible to view these things on a regular computer. You probably need some pretty good processing power and graphics cards to view it.
I’ll happily give Sony my dough if the transfer is improved. I don’t count on it, but a dude can hope.
The money was spent on the scanning, restoration, and mastering–why not do it correctly? With all of Hollywood’s current tech and access to industry experts in film restoration, color grading, mastering, etc., there’s no excuse for these films to be anything but perfect.
…but seriously, it’s time for GB2 on Blu. See? It even rhymes.
Unless I’m missing something I dont see this on the Sony site… Yet
how big is the difference between the dvd (green slime cover) and the 1st blu ray (blue slime cover) release? I bought a new 42" lcd Vizio tv a couple weeks ago and the dvd looks terrible, really grainy etc - I was gonna buy the blue slime blu ray but I should probably wait and buy this new remastered blu ray instead, huh?
More information has been released about the 4K Ghostbusters.
It is not actually 4K. It is a 1080P that will look good upscaled to 4K on a 4K TV.
What they are really doing is starting with a 4K… remastering it, and then changing it down to 1080P. That’s what they are advertising as a 4k transfer. Now. Since the original transfer of Ghostbusters was 4K to begin with… I believe this release is nothing more than new packaging with the same old disc.
I’ve had an old Sony Superbit vibe from this whole thing–the same resolution, with the disc space for supplemental content being used for higher bitrate. I could be mistaken, but I think the spec for BR has always been 1080. It can’t handle 4K, just like DVD isn’t designed to handle HD.
Then again, I could be wrong and it could be a repackaged BR. The price certainly seems to hint around at Sony not having a ton of dough invested in the disc.
I would have my fingers crossed for a better transfer, but been crossed for years for the GB2 BR. I can’t cross anymore fingers and be expected to type.
Cheers AJ,i think i’ll save my money on this one.I still hope for a release of (GB II Blu-Ray) as i’m sure it’s the 25th anniversary of it this year.Hey but if not i’ll still be patient and hope for something in the future.
Did anyone see it in the theater’s last year? Because I herd on another forum that this bd should be using the same transfer that was made for that special showing. I read it looked good so if that’s true this bd is better than the last one Sony did.
Next year is the 30th/25th

Good news fellas.
The 4K blu-ray is definitely worth buying because it is a new remaster (which is the same remaster some people saw on the digital re-release to theaters) which fixes the excess grain and contrast issues.
Take a look at the comparison between the current blu-ray and the new 4k blu-ray below:

By the way, the new 4K blu-ray is backward compatible with a 1080p TV and Blu-ray player, so you can enjoy the new transfer but at 1080p.

SOLD!!! That looks soooo much nicer! Thanks for the heads up, dudes!
My previous comments have just been burned…and i am now also SOLD i’ll be getting my pre-order in this Friday ![]()
If this was a special addition release celebrating the 30th anniversary of the films release and contained some brand new extras I’d be buying. Improved picture quality alone just isn’t enough for me to make a purchase, especially considering that I already own the previous blue ray release.
Which begs the question, why didn’t Sony just wait a year & do this thing the right right way? ![]()
I’m in no rush..hell, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of the “4K” resolution…on anything!
Would the recently released Director’s Cut of Little Shop of Horrors be considered 4K?

Arggh, these questions! Venkman better be able to burn my face off with his positron glider.
Technology…to love or to hate? Bah humbug!
