Hey everyone, I’m new to the forum and I’ve not found a definitive answer about the original Ghostbusters rainbow cable. I know it’s never been identified, but has anyone tried go through a company to recreate it? It looks like a lot of people do the GB2 pack, but I don’t own the movie, and the first movie sticks out in my mind so much because I remember watching it as a little kid and loving it.
I know it’s probably a moot point for most people, but when I start my pack (probably in about 4 months, after I move back home) I’d like to make it as close to the original Ghostbusters as possible asthetically. So… I think what I would be asking is, if it hasn’t been done before, or even lately, would people be interested in a replica cable being made (from the mockup in the sites wiki as reference) and offered here?
The original GB1 ribbon cable has never been identified the only reproduction that has evener been done was recently hot shot did a mold you had to paint. If you have a process of actually producing a ribbon cable that looks like the real thing I could guarantee you will have some customers.
it was looked into…i think there had to be about 1000 feet of it done at once…or it may have been more than that…either way i think it was decided that it would be way too expensive
Thanks for the responses guys. I have seen the cable hotshot did, and it looks great! I might check out getting one if I can’t find an alternative.
I’m actually going to be checking with a couple companies that make rainbow ribbon cables and if I can’t get something in a decent price range (not expecting it, just figured why not try and hope I can get a salesperson that understands what I’m trying and is enough of a GB fan to want to help out I’ll be looking into doing something on my own to try and get an accurate looking cable. I’ll keep the board updated on my progress.
i saw in another post about how this cat colored a grey ribbon cable to make his rainbow’dy. so i was thinkin of doing the same, but i was wondering if on the original cables how many leads were there per color? was each lead a different color, or maybe two to three leads per color? the ribbon i’ve seen in the store here looks like one color per lead with several in brown betweeen different colors. so what do you guys think?
The company I emailed about never got back to me, so I’m going to try and get ahold of them one more time before I give up on that part and go into phase two.
Phase two consists of attempting to find the appropriate coloured wires and figure a way to lamintate them together. I still don’t know when I’ll be able to start my pack, probably when I catch up on some bills (been out of work for 3 months) but I know I definitely want to build the GB1 pack

I understand, Darrin, it’s very refreshing to find something in the tangles of the internet. I had a thought today… has anyone checked locomotive applications? That’s something I can’t remember the Proptopia thread discussing… Anyway, I still think I’m going to attempt to use some of the same laminating ideas that hotshot had before casting his own and see if I can’t improve on an idea. I’m really liking the idea of painting a clear silicone on… we’ll see how it goes. Tracking down the individual wires is going to be the difficult part for me now.. but I will certainly continue looking into the found item for this. It’s gotta be out there somewhere!
