I do not know if this has already been posted but in seeking a solution for the GB1 round rubber spacer i found this at my local hardware store.
Its a rubber door stopper. 2 1 / 4" round by 1 inch high. Can be reduced easily, but it is quite firm. They are self adhesive so easy to fix em to the Mobo. I think this is the ideal solution, a coat of primer, a coat of black paint and a hole for the screw, and voila.
I found them at Canadian Tire, a Canadian hardware store but I guess they are for sale everywhere.
I went to Lowe’s the other day and they had white doorstops similar to those, but they were hollow and didn’t seem like they’d hold up for very long or be very sturdy. Were the ones you found hollow as well?
Matt was saying that regardless of using a rubber bumper you would still put the aluminum spacer inside the rubber anyway making it completely rigid and not just trusting the rubber spacer. So…I would think if all you can find is a hollow one that would be completely fine as you arn’t going to see the back of it anyway!
I plan to hollow mine out slightly to allow for the metal spacer.
No, he never said that he put an aluminum spacer inside the door stop, just that he put the bolt through it. I makes sense that you would have a solid rubber cushioning there, it gives support, but acts as a shock as well. I’d ideally like to find a solid rubber door stop and bolt it down really tight.
The ones I found were hollow and seemed like they’d lose any rigidity once drilling a hole through the center.
I told Julz in chat the other day that I have a 1/2" space inside my rubber space for support; that is what he is referring to. Without the spacer inside the rubber spacer, there would be way too much play that my pack would wobble around every chance it got.
I used what I think is almost an identical style of door stopper. I don’t know if it is exact, as it was really hard to squish it with my fingers like that. It is hollow, but once you drill the hole in the top and out the part that’s sticky the bolt holds in there just fine. It doesn’t rattle or anything and is very durable. I couldn’t see much inside obviously due to both ends being covered, but I even had to twist the bolt to get it to go through the stopper, and it was very solid once a nut was tightened around the other side.
This is pretty much exactly what I used, except that mine is black.
