I finally decided to add a GB2 flight suit to the closet…
I know there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of opinions buried throughout the boards regarding this, but here is my specific need/question.
I just ordered a GB2 style navy jumpsuit from the shop here on gbfans. For those of you who have purchased the same one, have you attempted to dye it with a diluted black RIT, or left it alone?
I know some have bought black, bleached, and dyed navy, but I am curious about doing (essentially) the opposite.
Any feedback/stories from those who have done it with the navy suit that the shop offers is much appreciated!
I bought a black Tru-Spec recently and I’m satisfied with the color. I’m lacking the funds to attempt a dye job that could wind up being botched to buy another flight suit, so I’ll just keep it black for now. I mainly didn’t buy the Navy suit because I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of dying it. I have seen some good results with a Navy starting point around here, however – but most of the recipes are starting with a black one.
The shade is debatable. I’ve honestly seen it look anywhere from black to a smidge darker than navy in photos, so it’s personal preference on how dark you want to dye it.
Start by bleaching, then look at the resulting color.
You’ll ultimately want to use black along with something to offset any other shades.
For example:
You bleach navy and end up with a dark purple. Dye it with equal parts black and green (green being the complement of the unwanted red shade), and see how your suit looks at that point.
