GB2 Special Features Gripe

Am I just being greedy or wrong for expecting a little more from the GB2 special features? While it was cool to see a few scenes I never knew existed (the Mayor’s assistant falling through the “Jell-O mold,” Venkman & Dana’s pre-trial talk, etc.) It would’ve been nice to see the alternate theatrical ending with the guys on Liberty Island, Slimer coming at the camera–similar to what he did in GB1. Maybe more behind-the-scenes, in-depth development type stuff included (table read-throughs, the shooting of special effects scenes, etc.); like a “Making of..” featurette–I believe there’s one on YouTube–but I’m sure more footage exists granted this was the second outing of a highly successful movie now-franchise. I’m not so much disappointed as I’m like..“That’s it? Really?”

Also, I thought there should’ve been interviews with people like Peter MacNicol (Janosz), David Margulies (Mayor “Lenny”), Harris Yulin (Judge Wexler), Kurt Fuller (Jack Hardemeyer), Bobby Brown, and the Deutschendorf twins (even though they’d be able to recall very little, it would’ve been nice to see them all grown up–I know they’re like karate instructors or something now–and hear any fan reactions they may have encountered once people find out they’re the GB2 baby). You know, stuff like that.

I also have a question for anyone who knows the answer…was this scene…

likely an extension of the one featured in the Louis/Slimer/Janine deleted scene we saw on the blu-ray? If so, I wonder why it wasn’t included in addition to the “Possessed Ray driving” scene & a few others I’ve heard about.

I’m not saying you’re complaining mate, but come on! it’s like nothings good enough for some fans these days. This year has been fantastic for NEW Ghostbusters products. You know they could have gave us nothing with GB II like they did with the green 20th anniversary box-set back in 2004.I’m so grateful for the deleted scenes, like i said we could have got nothing all together.

I know this topic is going to be nothing more than complaining about the NEW release.Sorry to sound like i’m being excessively conceited about this but we all know where this is going!

I think its a legitimate “gripe” (and just that) and its great that you’ve settled, but why should we consider ourselves “lucky” in seeing these deleted scenes for a movie that did pretty good upon its theatrical release? I think that we can agree that we [the fans–because we’re the only folks they’re catering to with this thing] deserved these scenes years ago.

Honestly, I know how some people can negatively perceive a post of this nature, but I’m really not ■■■■■■ off or anything that the aforementioned scenes (etc.) weren’t included…more so curious to know if anyone else shares the same “slightly shortchanged” sentiment–and if not, that’s cool too. How does that adage about keeping your expectations low go? I mean, it is the 30th/25th anniversary afterall. Maybe they’re saving the leftovers for the 50th? Or maybe its the reason they charged an extra $70 for a Slimer figurine? (Bless you if you actually paid for that)

Oh yeah, we’re totally lucky & ungrateful. :whatever: ..I won’t hold my breath. Again, I’m not ■■■■■■…but just sayin’.

I think, likely, the other deleted scene footage just may be completely unusable or lost. They didn’t think about DVD special features in 1989 as they do today. Like the scenes we got, in which several frames are missing. These reels have been sitting somewhere for twenty-five years.

I would have liked to see an HD version of the press kit and the Run DMC video. I think the second full trailer, which I had never seen, was pretty cool. I’m absolutely thrilled with what we got, because I’ve felt shorted since 1999.

The Reitman Aykroyd GB2 interview felt like they glossed over everything or most of the stories were stuff we had mostly heard before but again people as passionate as ourselves will always want more and more information. I am pretty pleased with what we got though I share some similar gripes about the missing scenes. If they are somehow missing, it would be nice to have an explanation saying footage has been lost or at least talk from Dan and Ivan about the missing scenes, what they entailed, why they were cut etc…

What I don’t understand is why there isn’t commentary from Ivan and Dan as a viewing option.

They realized they would have to watch Ghostbusters 2 to do that. :stuck_out_tongue:

IMO, they should’ve had like a brand new commentary with Ivan and Dan and not re-use the old one with Harold. I mean, by all means keep the old commentary on the blu ray, and then add the new one.

I enjoyed everything in the set. Yeah I would have like more stuff too and hope GBII does in the future.

I still don’t know what some have said about Slimer coming out from the Statue Of Liberty at the end. I saw the film several times in the theater which was the first one for me to do so and I don’t remember it. And the last experience in the theater I remember really well because the power went out during it.

  1. As others have said the missing or unincluded footage is probably lost or unusable, I for one was amazed that they had what they did. (also I TOTALLY agree with Ron about the RunDMC video!)

And 2)

The plural form of the word larvae is larvae…that is the line from the film as well “Ungrateful little yuppie larvae.”)

“Larvaes” is not a word…like there may be a moose or many moose but there are never moose’s…this is important here because while I agree with you, you are pointing out another person being irrational in an irrational or uneducated way, which invalidates the argument.

It would’ve been nice if they had mentioned Max VonSydow in the interview and I would really love to have had a featurette or a documentary on these two films.

I’m a cinephile and as someone who really loves movies, I don’t care for superficial, vague banter about the movies, but really in-depth anecdotes about the making of the film, the evolution of the story, trials and errors in the editing room, what was planned, what didn’t happen – you know, that sorta stuff.

Don’t get me wrong. I loved what I got, regarding the deleted scenes and the great transfers, but I do think it’s a genuine gripe that more could’ve been done. Just because someone has a gripe doesn’t mean they are “ungrateful yuppie larvae.” It means they care about the film. What’s so irrational about that?

Not only are you going off topic, you have way too much time on your hands. Now i have to go off topic to say what needs to be said. You’re intentionally pointing out people’s (grammar mistakes) and to be fair is it really that big of a deal that you had to rant about it…hey don’t forget to check the rest of the community discussions for (grammar mistakes) it could take a very long time though…but i don’t think time is a problem for you now is it when it comes to grammar… :eyeroll: :sigh:

I don’t think that the OP is expecting too much or being greedy or anything like that. I would’ve loved to had more of the deleted scenes, too. It seems like all the really interesting ones were left out of the features.

It would be different if one was demanding that the Louis-Slimer scene have all its effects completed for Blu-ray. That would asking something rather extravagant. Especially given how polarizing the movie is.

I don’t know. I don’t really buy that the footage doesn’t exist or is unusable. Sony is selling pristine, 1080p unused material from both films as stock footage. Plus, the unused, raw takes from the commercial shoot in the first film popped up in lovely HD. I would be willing to bet that Sony has everything that was shot for both films. Maybe they’re holding off for later releases… who knows.

My only “gripe” would be that I would have rather had a Reitman/Aykroyd commentary for both films instead of the roundtable discussion.

I could definitely have seen them doing a commentary for GB2 maybe they felt it would be unusual to do another for GB1 since the one they did(Reitman, Ramis and Medjuck) in 1999 was pretty amazing and definitive…and it would be weird for them to do a commentary ONLY on the second and not on the first? Hmm who knows!

Also agreed. ALL of the deleted scenes from Blue Velvet(1986) were finally found and put on the bluray a few years ago all in pretty good quality so I think it is highly unlikely a big summer blockbuster like Ghostbusters 2 wouldn’t have been preserved well.

guys i havent bought the blueray yet, so there is no commentary on either film like they did on the 99 release?
