GBfans Soundboard-- Speaker-question

Hey guys,

i hope you can help me.

I got my GBfans soundboard now and have a 8ohm 100w speaker.

Thats a very small speaker and the sound isnt good.

Than, second, i have a 4Ohm 250W speaker, its much bigger and the sound is very loud and good.

So now my question: are 4 ohm ok or have i to do a 4ohm speaker in series with another 4ohm speaker?

Can the soundboard go damaged with only one 4ohm speaker?

Thanks and best regards from germany

Erik

You want to match the impedance, so yes, you’d want 2 4-ohm speakers.

Hey guy,

What means that? So i have to put 2 4ohm speaker or i CAN put two spsaker?

Will i destroy the board with only one 4ohm speaker?

You will need to wire two 4 ohm speakers in series to get the required 8 ohm impedance.

Connect the positive from one speaker to the negative of the other speaker, and then wire the remaining positive and negative to the sound board.

Oh noo. That means i have to conect two speakers.. in the description is written that we can use between 4 and 8 ohm.

What will happen with only one 4 ohm speaker?

hey guys,

sorry that my english is not soooo good.

What means your posts now: is it possiple with the gbsoundboard and only one 4ohm speaker or will i destroy it?

Please help me,

best regards

Erik

I’m not an audio guy, but I believe if you drive a 4ohm speaker with an 8ohm amp, you can damage the amp. I would get a second 4ohm speaker and wire them in series to be safe.

This particular amplifier is designed for an 8 ohm speaker, but should not be damaged if you use a 4 ohm speaker.

The amplifier does have Short-Circuit and Thermal-Overload Protection so should not be damaged with lower impedance speakers but at higher volumes the amplifier’s built-in soft current limit (2A) could cause additional distortion and the hard current limit (2.5 A) could cause the amplifier to turn off/on repeatedly and the sound quality will be terrible.

The hard limit could easily be invoked if you have a 4 ohm speaker and a 12V battery. Marginal with a 9.6V battery. Neither battery voltage would cause a problem when used with an 8 ohm speaker (or two 4 ohm speakers connected in series).
