Here shortly I’m gonna start building a close to accurate pack that I can. On my budget. I built a pack last year for Halloween but it was a poor rendition. I am planning on making it mostly from wood and I am open to any suggestions. I’m not very exsperianced in making stuff but I’m going to take my time until it looks good. Using norm’s plans for most of this project for sizie and reference.
welcome aboard! this is the place to be for GB stuff! i too use to make packs back in the day, and have now returned and its a WHOLE new world!!
i highly suggest readying up on my boy Jays thread. i follow it allot, hes very detailed on his posts and supplies allot of info and steps he does
welcome to the club!
My best advise is to make a time table and budget…give your self some wiggle room and take your time. Also break the pack into lots of steps and it will not feel as daunting of a task. Building a pack is a great way to learn more about GB…and movie prop making as a whole. Best of luck on your build.
Also you can still pick up the Matty thrower…its a hell of a shortcut if you are OK with the Matty thrower inaccuracies.
Thank you very much! My wife bought me the matty thrower for my birthday. So I’ve already got that part down. I
Be sure to keep an eye on the For Sale section for parts, sometimes you can buy something for just a little
bit more than what you would spend scrapping it together yourself, and save a lot of time.
My biggest piece of advice, that I had to experience the hard way was about buying parts.
Get the right part you’re going to use the first time.
I cannot even begin to list the amount of parts I bought and later upgraded before they even went on the pack. Things like resin vs. aluminum, or accurate resistors, correctly branded tubing over generic, etc. I spent a lot of unnecessary dough on things I ended up not even using.
Agreed! Either I’ll build a pack with my extra parts that in not too concerned with the parts or ill have a garage sale here. Not sure. But I have quite a few parts in multiples because I found the same part I like better or was slightly different etc.
Research and plan ahead; ask questions and use that search button!
I really appreciate all the advice! It have decided that I need to buy a dremel. I will buy what my budget will allow and make a lot of the parts myself. Thank goodness for all the measurements on here.
