so i got some 50+ page thing in the mail today about getting sued. the guy has a site called “steveO deisigns” in miami. it has something to due with sharing private information/internet betting which i have done. wtf this is gay.

I was served this summer over a loan I didn’t believe was mine (they had my middle name wrong), that I thought had been taken care of when I verbally requested proof of debt which was never delivered (verbal, so I can’t prove it) and the debt collector didn’t contact me again for another year when I got hit with the court papers. By the time I got the proof I needed it was too late and I wasn’t in a position to settle for their 1/4th of debt owed offer, but we have arranged payments of the balance in full over time to avoid court.
If I were you, I would definitely go with the “this is gay” defense. Statistically speaking, it’s a very viable and successful strategy in the courts.

I have never been to his site nor done any shared any info about sports ■■■■. I watch super bowl and the world series but that’s as far as I go. So I very upset that this thing is being pinned on me. Sounds like they’re baiting you man. It’s easy to mask an IP address. If I were you I wouldn’t give them any info at all. Bring the notice to a lawyer. This could just be a phishing scheme.
It’s just frustrating cause I’ve had to shell out 750$ to my lawer to send a reply to the civil suit regarding the issue. It sucks that I have to pay… To not pay

All joking aside, I am sorry to hear about this man. I do tend to agree with Vince that it sounds really fishy to me. You might have grounds for a counter-suite if they are trying to bring you up on false charges.

No, not true. I’ve even been a process server back when I was going through college. Plenty of civilians can work as process servers, the trick is that you have to positively ID the person as who you’re serving. There’s more, I’m not going into it here, let’s just say it doesn’t have to be a cop. ( …around here. Your state may vary. ) Some people will try to cause you harm so it can be dangerous.
So their basis for identifying you is by tracing your IP address? Yes, they probably have the wrong guy and the real bad guy masked his IP by choosing one at random; yours.
