Ghostbusters & Jailbusters's Ecto

(copy & paste from another forum)

(original title was “could this be the ecto from the contest”)

i cant remember if the contest was after the second movie but im pretty sure it was…but this is a picture from deviant art…its the one here in huntsville…owned by a company called jailbusters…they had tried to tell me once that it was the actual one from the movie…i just sighed and didnt even try and explain to them because i knew it wouldnt be worth the energy to explain to them why i KNOW it wasnt lol

im not sure what year it is though…they didnt even know…but they said it was bought directly from universal studios..i think thats what they said..im planning on getting over there to take some photos now with a digital camera this time instead of the regular ones…as soon as i can get my pack done probably

(My response was… )

Actually, someone asked about this car in another forum.

The only pictures they came up was the Jailbusters cars. I will repost this over there.

Nice find though.

But I am sure they made it themselves or they bought a fan made car.

To answer your question, no this is not from the contest.

The car from the contest have nothing on the top of the car. I believe the car was a 61 or 62 or something like that.

The car you are showing, I believe that one is from the 70’s.

Can you give us some context for this post?

What contest?

What is all this?

I think he may be referencing the Coca-Cola contest from 1989 where they gave away an Ecto-1a. We have a Jailbusters here in Florence, AL. They also have a pathetic-looking black hearse they use to pick people up with. It makes me kind of ill that these people are exploiting the popularity of the Ghostbusters franchise to get their name out there. Just my opinion…

Das? ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qPxlIVeRO4

I saw that clip on youtube months ago and figured it was a contest that completely petered out when the company found out how much the prize would cost…

More info on this phantom contest, please!

That’s correct.

I guess I should have made myself clearer in my response.

Someone mention seeing a Ghostbusters Ecto 1 and Ecto 1A being displayed. So someone reply back with links to Jailbusters but there was no Ghostbusters Ecto 1 and Ecto 1A car in there.

Now this picture came up so I decided to re-post this here.

So however asked this question will get his question answered now.

Not only that but tons of people say they saw the ghostbusters car and about.. 90% of the time it comes out to be a station wagon, or later-model hearse. Someone said that there’s a guy in Joliet that has an Ecto 1 replica, but I’ve never seen it, and these are the same people that say that this corvette shop has one, which, A, they don’t have it anymore and B, it’s just a caprice wagon, and poorly done at that.

Well, lets be honest. For people who arent enthusiast of the movie and are just using it to promote their own business, they do have a decent replica. Anyone know if it was bought in that condition, or if they made it themselves? You can always look on the bright side, if their company goes under, someone if getting a nice ride with minimal fixing costs.

Yup. Over the past couple of months I have gotten to know the founder of the Denver Hearse Association (hearseclub.com) and on his site he tells stories about some of the bullshit questions he gets about is coaches.

I think that ones funny.

He gets asked that all the time. These are his two most distinct hearses.

Yup… ghostbustermobiles.

it was bought like it is…from orlando…i believe they told me from universal studios but i cant really remember…ill try and get over there in the next few days if i can and ask again

To be honest, it sounds like the people that are telling you about this Ecto are more full of sh*t than a Christmas turkey. The Ecto that Universal Studios had, while not 100% accurate, was at least the same body style as the Ecto from the movie. I don’t know if it was the same year, but it was very close. That monstrosity they have is way off.

actually what i think it is…they were lied to from whoever they bought it from…it wouldnt surprise me if they did buy it from someone at universal…what made it even worse was when thye said that it was used in the movie…which means they are dumb…but also were ripped off by whoever they bought it from..because thinking that it was screen used im sure they had to pay out the ass for it

I should start telling people that my ecto was the one used in the film, designed by George Barris himself.

If they question it, I can just say fuck you and storm off.

I like storming off.

Hey, you never know, it could’ve been used in the movie… you know that scene where you can’t see the car at all? Yeah, it’s in that one, right behind that one building… No, seriously. I’m not joking, it was right there.

My ecto was the one used when the guys were in the mayors office.

For reals.

My ecto was the one used to get to the museum. It only looks big and white from the camera. It adds ten pounds to a person, and 4 tons to a car.
