Ghostbusters Equipment

Who else wants the ghostbusters equipment to actually work and exist? I do and hope one day in the future it will. Just imagine you hear something in the night and whip out a PKE meter! I would finally get my answer to the age old question “do ghosts exist?” I have started DESIGNING a ghost trap but I have no idea if it will work.

Have fun clean in up the town!

I am curious. If you have not yet stumbled upon a scientific method to prove that ghosts do in fact exist, how have you started designing a device to capture these as-of-yet-observed-or-quantified phenomena?

Even in the films, the development of the Proton Pack and Ghost Trap came after years of collecting data, culminating in the trove of data they got from the library ghost at the start of the film.

There was a user, possibly on Ghostbusters.net or Ghostbusters HQ who said they were going to build a Ghost Trap back in the day… There’s little point in trying to design a device to capture a ghost when in the 21st century, there still isn’t conclusive proof that ghosts exist.

I breath a sigh of relief for my future insurance premiums that the Ghostbusters’ equipment isn’t, and never will be real.

Please reply if you would like to hear more and sorry about my typo in “cleanin up the town” autocorrect!

For the first guy that replied, I am a proud ghost believer and though I have not found proof I have a strong feeling and plus, if it doesn’t work it’s still a cool prop to have. Thank you for your consideration and thank you for taking the time to reply. I did not think people would be interested in this

If you would like to hear about the design could we make a seperate chat?

Considering in the first film, the proton packs were “Unlicensed nuclear accelerators” I don’t think anyone should build them. And you can bet if they did they would be arrested by Federal officials for making and using nuclear weapons.

Believing in ghosts is totally fine, and I’m not questioning that belief whatsoever.

What I am questioning is how you are designing a capture device for a phenomena you have zero data for. How does one design a device to capture something about which they know nothing? Please, do enlighten us.

I would love to fund you. You see, I am a Nigerian Prince and I am looking for a place for my millions of dollars…

Ok fair point guys

My idea for the ghost trap is that if it has some kind of energy field I suppose tempered is the word to a ghost/spirit’s energy force it might be able to hold it but I am not sure. It will be pressurised so that the spirit is sucked in and kept trapped. It will need to be powerful and it will need a lot of energy, for this reason I am not sure if it will work. I may need more research.

As Winston1986 said that is true so I may need to find another way to get them to work but that is why I am starting with the ghost trap or maybe the pke meter

If you are serious about this endeavour, you need to begin with a way to actually detect whatever this phenomena is. By being able to detect it, you can then work backwards to consider what that data tells you about the makeup of the phenomena so you can then develop other equipment to potentially manipulate those phenomena.

As of right now you know absolutely nothing. You cannot make a trap for something you know nothing about. Or rather, you can, but it will be meaningless as the trap and the phenomena will have no relation to one another.

Very true, that is a good idea thank you for that.

There has been multiple videos and documents on the closest thing to a real-life ghost trap…well, the idea behind it.

That is the penning trap. https://alpha.web.cern.ch/science/penning-trap

Other than that, you would have to do research to not only prove that ghost exists, but also the physics involved.

The idea of using a penning trap as a ghost trap only works if the phenomena that OP is considering to be “ghosts” is of a very specific ionization.

As I have said multiple times, OP knows absolutely nothing about the makeup of this phenomena. Skipping straight to building a penning trap just because a YouTube video talked about it as a potential explanation for how the ghost trap in the Ghostbusters film works would be insane. Movies are not real life. If you want to capture a real life ghost, you first need to know what properties a real life ghost has so that you can then figure out what sort of equipment would be necessary to manipulate that makeup.

Oh no, I’m not telling OP to follow these documents and try to build a ghost trap. I was providing what the concept of the trap is related to.

I think this is possibly as good a point to lock the thread as any. Any effort to build a containment vessel to hold a ghost feels like putting the cart before the horse, seeing as the existence of ghosts is still heavily disputed, even after over a century/centuries of accounts of encounters.

I’ll reopen this topic once irrefutable evidence of the existence of ghosts (via the scientific method) has been presented by the scientific community.
