Going to start on my Cheapo Proton Pack! :)

Since Halloween is coming up soon, I am going to start on my Cheapo Proton Pack! This is actually my 2nd time trying to do it. The first one didn’t come out that great.

I know lots of people want to have a really cheap proton pack and I seen paper mache proton pack and I seen proton pack made from the 99 cent stores.

I was thinking what could be cheaper than that?

I just realized that a proton pack made entirely out of cardboard will be the cheapest one to make.

I am making this proton pack based on Norm’s plans with some off of Venkman71’s plans and Stefen’s plans.

Once I am done, I am going to make a “Craig’s Cheapo Proton Pack Plans” for everyone to use if you want to make your very own Cheapo Proton Pack. Also I feel Norm’s Plans need some updating too.

I may do one or two cheats. One, I am making the motherboard out of fiber board (I think that’s what it is) because I want a sturdy motherboard to be attached to the frame. Two, I may or may not do it but I might use a 99 cent container for the cyclotron.

Here’s what I got so far. The frame is actually much worst shape than what you see in the picture because used it for the 1st proton pack I had so it have some left over glue and few paint spots.

I don’t have the shoulder pads in the pictures. The kidney or waist pads is missing. I don’t remember if I ever got them when I bought the frame.

The pieces of wood that is between the frame and the board is there to keep the board straight.

i want to make a cheap pack for my friends nephew, I’m gonna be watching this thread and reading the others like spooky’s halloween ideas thread and gary’s budget pack as well.

Someone here already did a cardboard pack, and it looked decent.

If you want to do a cheap pack though, and have it clean looking, Foamcore is the way to go, IMHO.

Some parts though DO need to be made of wood, because they will take abuse.. specifically, the Ion arm and the gun mount. I don’t thik cardboard will support wood well though.

I’d do a plywood motherboard, wood ion arm and gun mount, and then do the rest with foamcore. Cyclotron will probably be easier with a cakepan though.
