Good day, gentlemen

Hi guys. My name is Devin and I’m rather new here, and new to prop building in general. The only other movie prop type thing I’ve kept up with is a Johnny Five re-creation project at http://www.input-inc.com

So…I recently moved up here and one day I was walking to the mall to meet my girlfriend and there in the parking lot was Boomerjinks’ Ectomobile. Having never seen/heard of it before, it was quite an odd moment…of awesomeness. And now it’s always fun to be around for a ECTO-1K or JP Jeep sighting

So then I think I saw a youtube video of some proton pack lights and there was a link to this site, and here I am. I’m a long time GB lover, I grew up with all the toys and still have them somewhere. And now that I know I can make my proton pack…it’s just something that I can’t not do, you know? So I’ve started on a CAD version (can be seen in my Fan Art section. Is it sad that this is what I spent my spring break doing?), and when the semester is over I do believe it will be time to begin construction on the real deal. I plan on making my own lights with some PIC microcontrollers, it’s a great excuse to learn some assembly language.

I hope to make some future contributions to this community, I started by filling in some of the RGB Arcade Game page: http://www.gbfans.com/games/real-ghostbusters-arcade/

I’m sure most of you will be thrilled to take a gander. You’ll probably even forget there’s a new GB game coming out this year

Anyway, I’m 25 and a mechanical engineering student. I was raised in southern California, moved to Golden, CO in 2003, then moved up here to Fort Collins last December. I like modding game consoles and I love robots and all things LEGO. My girlfriend is more supportive of my new found obsession that I thought she’d be, so that makes thing much easier for us.

Oh, lastly, here’s a bit of me and my personality in video form. It won first place in a Fark.com video contest a couple years ago. Warning…there is foul language, sex, fighting, and hints of domestic violence, so view at your own risk. http://youtube.com/watch?v=RUZTp0yLRFM

Have a great day, boys (and some girls?)

Salutations!

Welcome Devin.

I love the Johnny 5 build they have at that site. I visit it often.

How is MechE going? That is the degree I am seeking currently.

Thanks guys

Glad to meet another J5 guy

I wish that community was more active, but building a S.A.I.N.T. is a bit beyond the scope of most people. Those guys at input-inc look to be doing a great job though so far. I really hope they release some blueprints.

ME is going slow, but at least it’s going, and I’m happy to say that I finished my last plain ol’ math class (prob/stats), and that feels great.

Do you have a specialty you’d like to head into?

Welcome to the boards, Devin. I hope that you enjoy your stay here!

I don’t really look to the future that much.

I just finished Statistics and Probability as well. Now that, that and all my Calculus courses are done.. I hope my mathematics classes are done for good.

But stats are so much fun!

welcome! My son would love a Johnny 5 (who wouldn’t?) You shouldn’t have any problems with props if you make real things out of metal…

Don’t even joke about that.

@AJ

I don’t like thinking about the future either, I hate looking at all the courses I still have left. But calc, DiffEq, and stats classes can go die in a fire now that I’m done with them. Feels good, huh?

It will be nice to have access to some of the workshops on campus, not sure when that will be yet as I just transferred here. Maybe fall semester.
