kept it aestheticallthe same.
I have striped it down but I cant figure out how the PTT button works, it looks like its just a little brass connection
I really want to take the pin that hinges the PTT button out but I cant remove it
My next problem I have is that all the radio’s I have have surface mounted componiants so I couldnt wire in another button
If anyone has done it I would be greatfull for your experance and guidance
I believe the UKGB Elite have done this. Try asking Lawrence (loly2kn2) and Andy (Andy_2_cool)
There’s a single grey wire coming from the ‘talk’ button, and I think it uses the metal center frame to complete the circuit. Could be wrong, there tho.
The plastic cover of the can (I think!) be removed, but I haven’t figured how as yet - don’t want to force it!
Would be a fairly simple job to insert a microswitch there, I should think (he says, hopefully!).

I sort of cut that wire off when removing the board, :eyeroll:
it looks like the grey button has a mettal pin at the top that it pivots on, but I cant remove it,
If I could I would then put a mico switch behind it,
I just drilled out the screw hole above the button and stuck in a push to make. I couldnt fathom out what was going on with that pre installed button, plus I had already cut the wires from it.

How did you wire the speaker in to the MT500
I know your ones were quite loud

How dose the Hyperdyne kit utilise the button
So I managed to remove the PTT button.
But snapped it in the process. 
Must be brittle with age.
There is a small spring half way up the button
When I could see the back side of that brass post I put a drill to it and it fell out leaving a nice hole for a micro switch
I have ordered another radio and I think I’ll be able to do somthing with this one learning from my mistakes

But if anyone has any ideas on how to remove the pin it would make it a hell of a lot Easter
I might see it I can take it to a watch menders see if they can knock it out
I used a Cobra MT800. works good but I have to open it to turn it on, which sucks.
I just glued the rim of the speaker to the holder of the MT500 and the mic just a little above it.
Its defo worth doing, mainly because I like showing off, haha

I very, VERY carefully dremeled away a chunk of the metal from behind the button and installed a momentary push-button switch behind it with a bent piece of metal to hold it just behind the grey button, then soldered it to my FRS walkie-talkie. It looks very ghetto on the inside, but once fully assembled it seems seamless.

Of all of the parts I added wire to, I finished each and checked it was working before moving on to the next.
Worked out okay, only downside is there is a little rattle on the speaker when its at full volume.
