Heard Proton Pack Sound in another 80s movie -Back To School

I did a search for this and couldn’t find anything, so hopefully this isn’t old news. Sorry if it is.

So I watched 1986’s “Back to School” starring Rodney Dangerfield for the first time tonight, and heard what sure sounded like the proton pack “turning on” noise during the dorm party scene, when Robert Downey Jr. is messing with a sound mixing board. Luckily it’s on youtube, so you can hear it for yourselves. It takes place at 2:58 in this clip:

Waddaya think? Anyone agree?

Great movie. I think the sound is similar, but not the same.

Oh, it’s mixed with a couple other audio effects but it’s definitely the same sound.

Must be one hell of a sound mixing board!

I’ve also heard the proton pack start up sequence in various tv shows and movies.. usually old ones.. but I know in “Fairly Odd Parents” .. there’s 1 episode with the start up sequence :)! It was one of those wtf moments when I heard it :stuck_out_tongue:

They use it in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood a lot for powerful alchemy, I’ve noticed.

It’s also in the intro to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles when the T-888 skull is coming together and a few episodes of Phineas and Ferb as some -inator startups

You can hear the sounds from the “terror dogs” in many 80’s movies and early 90’s

You can also hear Slimer’s roar in the trailer for The Howling III…

Mostly for Alex Louis Armstrong’s alchemy. I also heard it in an episode of Ga Rei Zero’s English dub. I’ll have to go back and see if it’s in the original Japanese track.

I know exactly the sound (and scene) you’re talking about. I bet I’ve seen Back to school 100 times. I knew I recognized that sound.

Same with me “parksdesign” love Back To School! Every time I hear the sound, all I can think of is Heat em up!

There was also an episode of Pokemon that used some sound effects from RGB

ugh… Robert Downey Jr… before he bought his teeth.

When I watched Back To School I remember that scene. I knew that I had heard the sound before but couln’t place where I had hear it. It never occurred to me that it was the proton pack. Watching the scene pack I can clearly hear it. It sounds as if it blended with other sounds.
