Help me please.

I want a Proton Pack but i suck at making stuff and have very little budget can anybody help me out.

Building is going to cost you around $400 in material for a movie accurate pack. So, lets say someone builds one and sells it. They have to add 50+ hours worth of work to get it done. So the minimum wage is what? $6.15 an hour? So there is another $307.50. Looking at about $700 for a pack buddy. I’d start learning how to build if I were you.

Here’s the deal… prop building is not necessarily a cheap or easy hobby. Ghostbusters props are some of the more expensive props out there, simply because there’s a ton of work and time involved to make a good looking prop. For a proton pack, you have a few options…

A) Buy one - any decent proton pack, even without lights, could run you anywhere from $300 - $1000 or more… just depends on how accurate it is.

B) Build one yourself - this would be cheapER… but not necessarily cheap.

C) Build a custom - meaning, not accurate - proton-pack-looking thing. Let’s face it, come halloween most people won’t even know the difference. This option can be as cheap as you want it to be.

D) Buy a custom pack from someone… this is fairly cheap but you’re still going to pay someone else for the time they’ve invested.

Basically prop building is a hobby that requires time and money, sometimes more time than money! It takes time, patience and practice. If you don’t know how to build things… well, now is a good time to learn. And if you want a dirt cheap prop chances are you WILL have to build it yourself. There are alot of people that are in the same boat you are in… even just on the first page in the proton pack forum, there are quite a few threads about packs being made cheaply. I mean halfway down this first page there is a thread titled “DOLLAR STORE PROTON PACK” - it can’t get any cheaper than that!!! But oh yes it can! On this same page there’s a guy that’s using foam and duct tape for most of his pack… Starting a new Proton Pack (Pics intensive) - GBFans.com

RANT WARNING BELOW

For everyone new to the prop building hobby, or just new to this site… I don’t want to sound mean or anything but really - what would it hurt to read through the forums before you start posting? There is a TON of information on this website if you just take the time to read through it. I’m not saying I wasn’t ever new to the prop building community, but I also remember sitting at my computer for a week before I started posting and asking questions. The people on this website are some of the most helpful and nice people I’ve ever come across. And they are more than willing to help anyone… but they’ll be more likely to help you if you help yourself first. All I’m saying is do a little research first.

And welcome to a wonderful hobby!

Prop build isen’t as hard as you might think, If you have good plans. You can fine some plans here: http://www.gbproject.com

About materials and prices. Like a carboard pack, easy to build and it would look good! Once I saw someone make a proton gun with Foamboard and it looked great. You can also use foam, but I woulen’t recommend it. And, the rare parts, go to the store part of the site. AJ is selling those parts at great prices! There’s all kinds of things you can do, just have to think about it a bit. Hope what I said helps.
