Help: My checklist for pack

I am a college student on a budget of about spare 100(top dollar) bucks a month. However after deciding on a gb 2 costume being my next piece, being a avid cosplayer. I have started to do a checklist not only so I know how much I need so I know how much I need to save up or purchase a piece at a time. I also am doing this list to see if I am missing anything.Please check this list and let me know if I am missing anything, or if you know places/costs of items I have listed. I also have approximations listed for some parts/pieces fill me in if you know current/better prices. I have no problem making this a GB1 pack and just running a just a GB 2 flight suit to simply things if it means less money and easier

Grand Total $1300. So I figure at $100 bucks a month I can have this costume completed in just over a year maybe 2 years depending on if I am able to save $100 each month or only 50 some. This does not including fancy pieces like the lifeguard radio or trap etc. I am also assuming that there will be another 200-400 with shipping and stuff I missed. However I am assuming most of this stuff off the gb forums shop or members here please let me know if I need to find pieces for the pack elsewhere!

However any advice on saving $$$ here is very appreciated. Please feel free to give a new buster any and all advice, I am not easily offended

Ramen. Not even the TOP Ramen. Cheaper food costs will put more money into your pack fund. Likewise, cutting out a few drinks on the weekend will save some dough. Pick up a part time job, often times the schools need cafeteria or janitorial help. Buy bottled water in bulk (I.e. a 24 pack for $3.50) instead of pop or beer.

Looks like you have a decent handle on what it’s going to cost. You can save some money getting resin parts instead of real but that’s up to you. You can also save on shipping by ordering a bunch of parts at once instead of peicemealing it but that’s not always possible and you have to jump of things if/when you see them.

Also I heard some good news since my birthday falls in late jan my folks agreed to put foward $500 towards a shell, motherboard alice frame and whatever else I want! So those are a few big pieces that I can take off my list. So by my count I have about $775 left in parts to purchase, with a budget of $250ish enough to get me my matty wand when they go on sale in a little more than 2 weeks(Dec 18th). Had I not bought TC’s matty trap my costume would of been nearly done after xmas. Oh well as the next con out here in cali is wondercon(March) I am hopping I can have it done before than if not than Comic Con or so!

Either way I can see my list slowly dwindling down, can not wait to have it all and then build my pack!!!

Also my math was off just double checked it with a calculator and I am at the Grand Total of $2165 so far. Dang that is enough for a cheap used car. I still have $400-500 left to go. It sure adds up fast! Oh well at least my checklist is near empty now!!!

Even better - buy ONE bottle of water and the reuse it with tap water. Here in western europe there’s no reason not to do that, tap water’s good and so much cheaper. Also, cook at home.

This is a really great thread. I find a lot of people complain about budget restraints and refuse to draw out their purchases and in the end never get a proton pack. You’ve budgeted your self well and are drawing out the buying process over a long time period. Very smart, I hope you’ll have the same quality and sensibilities in your build. Keep it going!

Got 1 from Eric(Ejgunth87) he bought a few extra from AJ on the last run. Unfornately I grabbed the last extra one. So I guess you will just have to keep searching. Sorry bud

Thank you the one mistake I made which I hope others do not, is ordering a few items within a few hours apart and from the supplier. Thus having to spend probably in total about a extra $100 or so in shipping. So make sure before you finalize your order you double check list to make sure you can include all you need and have money for in the same order, thus allowing you more saved for your next order, or more parts quicker.

YOu and I are of the same mentality it seems.

I got my L brackets recently, and just tonight bought a riveter and tap and die set so that when I get the motherboard, shell and frame I can go ahead and get that all fitted.

Though I gotta run to a hardware store and get a drill since, well, wait until Walmart I said, it’ll be cheaper there I said.

Luckily Lowe’s has a nice Black and Decker drill for around 30 bucks.
