ok well now that I got your attention let me explain myself. I thought I would be real clever and put a $200 minimum order in through an electroncics distributor for vintage dale RE70G23R7 resistors. and this is what I got
I spent full retail on these so about $7 a pop to get my hands on them. Can’t return them of course because guess what? I got exactly what I ordered.
now i’m out $200+ but my loss may be your gain in knowledge and if your nice and you end up finding a few maybe you could toss me one for pity’s sake.
There were a lot of resistor manufacturers back in the day and it has relatively recently been noted that the dead to rights correct resistor is a Pacific brand.
now here’s the value on this one that may help locating the right one
it’s an RH-25 20 Watt 23.7 Ohms at 1% RE70(as in zero)G23R7 the 8452 tells you the date it was made so that means diddly

Aside from a few differences, the bodies on the Sage and the Pacific are indeed nearly identical, which would explain why the Sage has been such a common piece over the years. Here are some side by side shots for comparison.
One damming piece of evidence has been sitting under all of our noses, for a long time, on this very site. Take a look at this pic from the reference section:
Notice the resistor? It has a nearly flat top, with a small circular groove. Now let’s compare the Pacific and Sage resistors side by side again, but from the top. Pacific on the left, Sage on the right:
See how the Pacific has the same flat top with circular groove and the Sage features a deeper indentation? It is my belief that the Minnesota pack has a Pacific resistor. Is it common on all packs? I think so as well.
Not an expert on resistors, and I’m only giving my opinion on the matter, so if you have evidence to the contrary, I would love to see a pic of your Sage, that looks just like the Pacific, with the flat ends. I’ve only seen them with the cone shape indentation, which includes the Sage sold in the shop.
that’s too blurry in that part of the picture to tell, im looking at the same thing and it looks like the sage resistor on the right in the bottom picture that also has a “nearly flat top with a small circular groove” to me.
So were the Sages painted for the film? Why isn’t the top of the resistor white in the reference pic?
Here is another example taken from our beloved OMNI cover. You can pretty much make out “Pacific,” and at the very least “PAC,” running from bottom to top in white lettering.
So you’re confirming that the fifth HERO pack had a Pacific, but they weren’t used on any of the others?
I have no idea, this is the first I’ve EVER heard of this. It was mentioned that one of the sony lobby packs had a Pacific and I found that shot. I’d be more interested to see conclusive proof that the dale version was ever used on a pack.
