Hey, Y'all. Mississippi, here.

Hello all.

I’m Ghostbusters fan from the Mississippi Gulf coast.

I’ve been a fan since as long as I can remember (born in 1984). I love the movies, and the cartoons growing up. Even though I own the movies on DVD, I still watch them if they come on TV. I used to own the toy Proton Pack as well as the ghost catcher.

When I was very young, I had a very hard career decision to make with my life. I was either going to become a Ghostbuster, or a Ninja Turtle. Considering the odds of studying paranormal activity seemed more realistic than becoming a giant mutant anthropomorphic amphibian, I followed the science path instead of the martial arts.

Unfortunately, as years moved on, I slipped into the science of geography as an adult instead of paranormal research. (I was young and needed the money). I’m now a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game was a day-1 sale for me. Playing it gave me a surge of nostalgia for the franchise. At last! a game that REALLY let you catch ghosts like in the movies!

Now, to move to a slightly different direction.

I am a bit of a screw-up and a slacker. When it comes to projects, I find everything so complicated that I become directionless and feel that everything is always out of my reach. I’ve never had any guidance on projects.

When I was a boyscout, we had those little cars you built and raced. Mine perpetually stayed in in it’s block and four wheels. I didn’t know how to work and craft things. That pretty much sums up the way things have been for me. I’ve never had a creative project that I’ve been able to finish. :frowning:

Also, I LOVE Halloween and I love scifi, fantasy, and gaming conventions. I love to look at all the awesome Cosplayers who show their love by, for a brief period, actually becoming the thing they have enjoyed.

Unfortunately, I’m 6’ 4" and over 300 lbs. I hate that NOTHING fits me. It’s a lifestyle that I always been upset that I am severely limited against participating in. Never will I see the day when I’ll don most of the costumes and pull off a believable attempt.

Alas…

I have ALWAYS wanted an awesome suit like the Ghostbusters wore, and the proton pack is something that always gave me goosebumps. I simply smile whenever I hear one power-up. That “Ka-cheeeEEEEEEE.” is pure audible joy.

But Anyways,

One day, I couldn’t take it anymore. I went to an army-navy surplus store…

There was only one jumpsuit that (sort of) fits me. (God, I HATE ME!!! >_< ) It’s a dark navy-blue.

I grabbed some black ** elbow pads**.

I grabbed a green (L-shaped)** flashlight**

I Grabbed an** ALICE** and some black straps for it.

I went online and got a** GBII “no-ghost” patch** from this website

I bought a custom Ghostbusters Name-patch with my last name from ebay.

All I know is that I DON’T want to fail at this.

What do I do now? I’m lacking direction and have no idea what to do now…

And that’s my story and introduction for now.

Thanks for letting me in to your community.

Hi, I’m also kind of new here but still want to welcome you.

Wanna tell you, even the longest journey starts with the first step.

You already made that step, with the decision to make the costume. Then you made the second step by geting the needed items to make yourself a GB suit. Now don’t loose it. You could start out with geting the patches onto the jumpsuit, either sew or iron them on(depends on the patch)! Just make sure you don’t set the iron directly onto the patch, instead lay some cloth top of the patch before you iron it on.

When it comes to the equipment(speaking of pronton pack, trap aso) you’ve got some options:

1.If money is no problem for you, you can alway try to get finished props on ebay.

2.If you’re no millionair you could try to build those things by yourself. This give you more options:

a) do a scratch build using some plans like the ones you find here:http://www.gbfans.com/equipment/plans(what I did 'cause I’m not having any spare cash)

b) If you’re willing to put some more money into it, you could find you a trustworthy shop and order all the parts from shell to gunkit. (I would recommend this for you, because they are not that hard to build, fit together like legos, but if you still can’t work it, ask a friend for help)

Ppl who sell those can be found here http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewforum.php?f=29!

Also look into the feedback section to get a clue, who you can trust or not!

Hope that could help you a little bit.

Dominik

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I’ll post a pic of my suit once the patches come in.
