Hello and thanks in advance for reading my introduction topic. Prepare yourself for a long dialog. (Sorry.) ^_^;
You can call me Traveler for short (other names I go by on other forums and such are “Traveler of Game Worlds” and “Breakman”). I’m a female from Southern California. (And single.
) I work two jobs so I can earn enough to go to college (but it is so hard when you have bills to pay). I want to become an animator either in the cartooning or videogame field. Needless to say, I love drawing. The problem is I usually don’t have time to sit down and actually work on something nice than just sketches and doodles. My favorite medium is charcoal.
I can’t say I’ve been a diehard fan of the Ghostbusters. I guess I’m what you would call a “dormant fan”. I remember watching the first movie when I was around 6 or 7 (I’ll talk more about that later) and then it kinda got lost in my memories. Over the years, though, things did remind me of them (weapons in videogames, references from shows and movies, etc). Heck, the main reason I played Luigi’s Mansion was because it reminded me of Ghostbusters! I really liked the concept of a couple of guys catching ghosts in a “lighthearted” fashion. But why didn’t I go to the source material? Who knows… (Until…)
So, anyways… Zoom right to 2008. I was at Comic-Con and saw the game on display. I probably stayed there watching people play for more than an hour (well, it did help that a few handsome blokes were dressed as Ghostbusters wandering around nearby). Later that year, I was one of the disappointed who heard “Brutal Legend” and “Ghostbusters” were dropped from Activision’s release list.
So hearing that Atari picked up the game only proved to me that I needed to preorder it to show support. Waiting patiently and finally got to play it on the 16th (a day after Wallace and Gromit Episode 3 came out), I loved it. Loved it to death. Sure, it has it’s little bugs (I never encountered any game-stopping problems that many seem to complain about) but it has humor and a lot of charm. (It is easily in my Top 10 Favorite Games.) Plus, it is one of the few new-generation 3rd-person games that doesn’t make me nauseous while playing (1st-person shooters are totally out of the question).
Shortly after that, I went out and got the movies. I finally understood why I avoided watching the movies all this time. ::laughs:: The first one psychologically scarred me as a kid. Seriously.
You see, I had reoccurring nightmares when I was in 1st grade. It involved a giant Bob’s Big Boy causing chaos in a city; stomping on people, destroying buildings, and the whole works. Notably, he stepped on my mom. I had to see the school psychologist once a week because couldn’t sleep and had the constant fear that my mom was going to die from being stepped on by a disturbing burger joint mascot. It never occurred to me (at the time) or the psychologist that I was replaying the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man scenes in my dreams (of course, replaced by my scary looking Big Boy coin bank my parents insisted in putting in my room).
I’m perfectly fine now, so no worries. ![]()
And to throw this out there, my favorite Ghostbuster is…
I love his personality and manner. (I also liked Mr Ackroyd in Blues Brothers.)
I’ll be attending Comic-Con next month. I’m planning on bringing my Sam and Max (still debating if I want to bring Max, though) and Razputin (from the game Psychonauts) costumes. If I get my Ghostbusters costume put together in time, I’ll be bringing that as well. ![]()
Okay, you can wake up now. I’m done typing.
