How to holster a thrower on the side of a pack?

Both of my packs are effectively lightweight garbage packs. My RGB pack’s plastic clip keeps tearing off of the side of the pack and now I’ve built a new pack and I’m unsure how to make the thrower stay on the side of the pack when not in use. I had to scotch tape my thrower down when it tore off just before a parade earlier this year. I was using a plastic slide out hook from the dollar store with the hook sanded off.

I haven’t seen anything specifically about the attachment in any of the builds I’ve looked through.

Both packs have corrugated cardboard right where the thrower should rest. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What sort of pack is your new one; RGB or GB1/2?

Cardboard really isn’t ideal for proton packs, especially for lode-bearing points like the gun mount. You might try rebuilding parts of the pack out of foam-core board, which is inexpensive and easy to work with.

For reinforcement, you could have a block of wood behind the foam-core gun mount exterior, which would allow you to use something a little stronger, such as a steel picture-mounting bracket. That wooden block could then be screwed into a motherboard of sorts.

When working with lighter materials like foam-core, cardboard, or even thin plastic, don’t be afraid to use extra wide washers on the inside of parts where you have pieces bolted on; washers help distribute the pressure and help keep your parts from getting torn off.

Can you post a few photos of what kind of set-up you have?

I built my pack last year out of mainly cardboard, but I made the right side of the pack where the thrower attaches to out of several layers (all the way through) so its more sturdy.

Picks are in my build thread in my signature below.

My new pack is a 2016 pack. It’s incredibly light but the cardboard is held together with wood glue in a technique I proved could withstand up to 500psi back in an engineering class I took a couple years back. The thrower shouldn’t be that bad if I can just get an idea of what people are doing with the attachment and what it looks like. If it helps, this is where all of my pictures of both packs are: http://ducktapestuck.tumblr.com/tagged/ghostbusters

Wow. Your cardboard pack is gorgeous Gamera1968, but I didn’t see any pictures of how you made the part that holds the thrower onto the side of the pack.

I see. That should work since I went a similar route. Also you could place some magnets underneath so it could catch easier.

You could also get dixie cup hooks and us those as well. Just make sure they’re attached well to the neutrino wand / thrower and gun block on the pack itself.

Thanks! I forgot to take more pics but I use the dixie cup hook method. You can find both the male and female parts online for under $10. Best of luck and hope that helps.
